Derby off!

I've just been told that all pitches at KGV are out of action for tomorrow, so i'm afraid our derby game is a no go!

As this was half expected, Mark and I decided to provisionally book Wonford Sports Hall for another mini 5-aside tournament.   The hall is only available between 10am to 11:30am, so the cost should be a little less than last time (no more than £2.50 if we get a good turn out). Can you let me know if this is ok with you all please?

Hopefully see you tomorrow!

Derby Day

It's our local derby game on Saturday so can we meet at KGV for 10am please. As usual, please let me know if your son cannot make the game.

The pitch is currently looking ok to play but this could change due to the heavy rain forecasted for tomorrow, so the game is on unless you hear from me to the contrary.

Tiverton Youth 2 - 3 Central United

What a performance you put in today boys, I cannot praise you enough - you were all superb!  The win was all the more impressive in the absence of Ollie and having such a biased referee.  A huge thank you to Sean for helping the team out by going in goal and doing a sterling job - you could do nothing about both their goals by the way.

It was a tight first half but felt we were the better team and deserved to go into half-time at least 1 or 2 up with Andrew and Francis going desperately close; it was looking like it was going to be one of those days.

That theme continued into the second half when they scored with their first clear cut chance putting us 1-0 down but we responded straight from the kick off with a brilliant team goal converted by Pacey.  Despite some more great football we could not get ourselves in front and 1-1 was looking like the most likely outcome, until Matt made one of his surging runs down the right wing and scored an amazing long range shot from an acute angle.

With over 30 mins of the 2nd half played the final whistle just didn't come with the referee clearly adding on time to give Tiverton a chance to equalise but this backfired as Euan scored a close range shot to put us 3-1 up.  Surely the referee was going to end the game now but no…. the game continued and Tiverton got one back.  Surely the whistle would blow at kick off, as we are now at least 5 minutes over time, wrong……. play continued on and there were some nervy moments until eventually the ref finally admitted defeat.

There were so many stand out performances it's very hard to pick one person out but Joe and I have decided to award the captains armband to Andrew for his best game in a Central shirt and showing great attitude - good stuff Andrew!

Look forward to seeing you all on Monday at training.  Please note that lower Barrack Rd will be closed.

By the way, that's 3 wins out of last 4 games now chaps which shoots us a few places up the table - now that's progress!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Tiverton Youth v Central United

Sorry for late post but I wanted to speak to the Tiverton Manager first to find out the state of their pitch. I've been told it's looking ok so, as I write this, the game is on but they are inspecting again tonight at 7pm due to more rain forecasted.  If you do not hear from me please assume the game is on and meet at their ground for 10am.

The address is College Pitch, Bolham Road, Tiverton, EX16 6SH.  Please let me know if your son cannot make the game.

Hopefully see you tomorrow.

Great session

It was good to catch up with the City boys today and thought the mini tournament went really well; hopefully, we will be able to arrange it again sometime.  All the games were really exciting to watch and really close - all were either drawn or won by only a single goal.

You are all clearly taking on board what Joe and I are trying to teach you, as we have noticed a big improvement in the football you are playing recently so well done for that and keep it up.  Looking forward to seeing you putting it into practice on the field soon, weather permitting of course!

See you Monday chaps.

Weather strikes again!

As expected tomorrow's game against CS Leopards has been cancelled due to waterlogged pitch.  As City's game at KGV is also affected I have organised a session with them at Wonford Sports Hall, Rifford Rd, EX2 6NF, 10am to 12 noon.

Based on 24 boys turning up it works out to exactly £3 each.  For those who have not contacted me already, can you let me know if this is ok please?

Many thanks.

Saturday

Whilst not confirmed yet Saturday's game is doubtful, so I wondered what you all thought about having another Sports Hall session if our game is cancelled?

Riverside

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's session at the Riverside - it was good to see you back playing again.

I thought i'd share a couple of photos I found to try and illustrate what I was trying to tell you yesterday re shooting.

This is David Beckham taking a shot from a return pass.  Notice standing leg planted next the ball, the slight lean to the side and back lift of right leg.

Then notice where he is striking the ball and with which part of his foot to get the power - his laces!

We'll be doing some of this at training tomorrow but don't worry I won't be expecting you to bend it like Beckham - yet!!!!

Another postponed game

As per my earlier text messages, tomorrow's game has been called off and I have booked the Riverside sports hall between 10am and 11am for a training session.  Hope to see you then! If not see you on Monday.

Colyton Redsocks v Central United

We have our re-arranged fixture against Colyton Redsocks on Saturday.  KO is 10.30am but can we meet for 10am so the boys have a bit of time beforehand to do some drills, as it's been a while! Please let me know if your son cannot make it.

Here's the address of their ground:

Another re-arranged game

I have provisionally arranged for us to play our home fixture with Tiverton Town Youth on 22nd February (cancelled in September due to waterlogged pitch).  I see this is half-term week so can you let me know asap if your son cannot make this date please?

There is training tomorrow, weather permitting, so hopefully see you then.

Match postponed

I'm afraid Saturday's match against Colyton has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch but as both teams have a free date the week after, on 11th, we have decided to play the fixture then.  Can you let me know if your son cannot make this date asap please?
