No Training

I'm sorry but training is cancelled again on Monday, as Exeter School Astro is closed, so I will see you all for the away match at Colyton on 4th January when I hope you'll all to be raring to go!

Happy New Year and here's to a successful 2014!

Sunday 22 December 2013

Training cancelled

I've just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow and it looks pretty awful all day so I've decided to cancel training.  Have a great Christmas everyone!

Saturday 21 December 2013

Kentisbeare Colts 1-2 Central United

It was a real gritty performance today boys, you all worked your socks off for each other which was great to see.

In the first half we played some nice football despite the boggy pitch and deservedly took the lead through a well worked goal scored by Andrew. Francis was a constant threat down the right hand side and went close on several occasions before finding the back of the net to give us a 2-0 lead, which was preserved until half time due to some superb saves by Ollie.

Kentisbeare are a big side and their physicality showed in the second half as we tired on the heavy pitch. Midway through the second half we conceded a scrappy goal and then had to defend for our lives on a few occasions to hang onto all 3 points.

Man of the Match and captain's armband goes to Pacey for his work rate, hard tackling and for showing such dedication in having to take 2 buses and a taxi to get to the game - i'm glad the trip was worth it!

It was great to end 2013 on a high so well done all!

Training will continue as normal but I appreciate some of you will have other commitments, so if I don't see you on Monday have a great Christmas.

Thursday 19 December 2013

Saturday's game

It's Kentisbeare away on Saturday so please be there around 10am for 10.30am KO please. If your son cannot make it please let me know. Here's the address: Rectory Park Kentisbeare Cullompton Postcode EX15 2BR

Sunday 15 December 2013

Training

I will be about 10 minutes late for training tomorrow but Joe will be there to take the start so please do as he says.

Xmas do

If you go to 'Photos' tab on blog there are some Xmas do pics.

Central United 0 - 4 Brixington United

Thank you all so much for my bottle of champers and voucher, I was not expecting that!  It was a lovely gesture and much appreciated.  I'm afraid it's not looking like we are going to win the league this year, so I might as well enjoy the bubbly now! Every cloud!! ;-)

Regarding yesterday's game, the scoreline definately flattered Brixington.  I thought we did really well in the first half and deserved to go into the break at least 1 goal ahead. For some reason we struggled to find our rhythm in the second half but still managed to keep things level until the last 15 minutes, during which time we conceded 4 goals in quick succession giving us no time to respond.

Man of the Match goes to Matthew Williams for his superb work rate and playing so well despite having to play out of position.  Matthew - as you have had the captains armband before and I want to share the captain's duties around over the season I hope you don't mind, on this occasion, me giving it to Joseph who I felt had a solid game at left back.

It was good to see such a good turn out at the Waterfront for a continuous conveyor belt of dustbin lid pizzas - I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Finally, a big thank you to those of you who helped with the snack bar and changing rooms.  You'll be glad to know that City will be taking care of it all in February meaning we don't have to do it again until next season.

Thursday 12 December 2013

Central United v Brixington United

We are at home to Brixington United on Saturday, so 10am at KG for 10.30 KO please.

It's our day to run the snack bar and man the changing rooms and I have following people down to cover this.

Snack Bar

Anne Gray/Helen Laws/Caroline Burnard

I will pick up the urns and bring them along filled with hot water to save some time.

Changing Rooms

1pm to 1.30pm - Me
1.30pm to 2.15pm - Andrew Blewett
2.15pm to 3pm - Mark Sloman
3pm - 3.45pm - Nick Banwell
3.45pm to 4.30pm - Roger Snell

Duties include manning the front door and opening up internal changing rooms upon request and last person to lock up - I'll go back later on in the day to do the clearing up.

On a different note, I put a little match report in the Express and Echo that the boys might like to look at.

Saturday 7 December 2013

Central United 2 - 0 Sidmouth Raiders

What a difference a week makes!  You should all be very proud of yourselves; you all played your part in today's victory and it was great to get our first clean sheet of the season.  You took last weeks criticism on the chin and did something about it.

Whilst we dominated most of the first half with some lovely wide play by Zac Burnard and Euan Land we struggled to make a breakthrough and went in at half time all square.

Re-energised after the oranges and playing down hill in the second half the game was only going to go one way.  We had more shots on goal and Francis Blewett was really unlucky not to score with a couple of great strikes heading for the far corner.  The deadlock was finally broken by Zac Burnard who nearly broke the net with absolute thunderbolt of a shot!  It was only a matter of time before we got our second and this came from Ollie Banwell with a very cute finish in off the post.

Zac Burnard was awesome today in midfield showing both great work rate and link up play and fully deserves the captains armband next game - well done Zac.

Worth a mention

Francis put in his best performance of the season, despite not playing in his preferred position, giving the team real impetus down the right hand side and Sean Laws put in a real dogged display in the first half and through shear determination made a superb clearance off the line - exactly the attitude Joe and  I want to see so please take note! There were also improved defensive performances by Joseph Gray and Ty Pardew.

Well done all!

Thursday 5 December 2013

Couple of things!

To save Mark a load of hassle collecting money at the Xmas do may I ask those who have not paid in full do so on Saturday please? I can then transfer the monies to Mark in one go.

Regarding Tesco on Sunday, can you make sure you son wears his Central shirt please.

Many thanks

Tuesday 3 December 2013

Saturday's game

Saturday's fixture is Sidmouth away, however they have an issue with pitch availability due to their under 12's also playing at home, so I have agreed for them to come to us and we'll play them away in March.  Also, I have brought forward KO to 10am as I know some of you have other commitments to get to - I hope this is ok with everyone.  Please let me know if your son can't make it, otherwise 9.40am at King George please.

Sunday 1 December 2013

Tesco bag day

Can you let me know if your son is unable to make the Tesco fundraiser next Sunday please?

Xmas do

Jonathan Lippman has printed some tickets for the Xmas do at the Waterfront, so I will hand these out to the boys tomorrow for those who have paid.  If anyone else would like to go please let me know asap please.

Central United 2 - 9 West Exe Youth

Well….. I think its best to be completely honest with you boys, and I thought that the manner of yesterday's defeat was a little  disappointing.  We started the game quite well and things were pretty even for first 10 minutes but then we conceded a goal and for the rest of the half we lost heart.  We gave them far too much space and seemed quite happy to let them shoot without closing them down or getting any sort of challenge in, with the exception of George who worked tirelessly in this area and for this he gets the captains armband next game - well done George!

Well into the second half, our new signing Pacey scored a fully deserved goal and then all of a sudden you started playing again with Francis, who was showing some real quality down the left wing, getting us a second shortly after; we also went very close with several other attempts and were unlucky not to get a couple more - it shows that you can do it when you want to!

You're a great bunch of lads and all have ability but it's very frustrating not seeing you fulfil your potential due to being too considerate to other teams and showing a lack of determination - this has to change if you want to win games - after all we are playing competitive football this year.

Anyway, the good news is we have plenty more games to put things right and we are going to be taking a different approach in training going forward that should help.

Something else I wanted to mention is that we have a squad of 14 players meaning that if everyone is present we have 5 subs (more than half a team) making it impossible to give everyone a full game, so don't be disheartened if you get taken off as it's not because you are playing badly just that i'm trying to be fair and make sure everyone gets a decent amount of game time.

Being sub is a good opportunity to practice and get to know your team mates better, so in future games I will be giving you some drills to do together.

I look forward to seeing you at training tomorrow.

Thursday 28 November 2013

Saturdays game

Saturday's game is against West Exe Youth at home so please be at KG for 10am.  Joe and I will be there early to put the goals up but would appreciate help fixing the nets whilst we do warm ups etc with the boys - thanks.

We have an official referee for this game who was allocated to the under 12's game but is no longer required.

Monday 25 November 2013

Tesco bag day

Below is email from Nigel sent to all managers - our slot is 12pm to 1pm

Just a gentle reminder please to ensure as many our your team members attend the Tesco bag filling day.

your allocated time slots are shown on the attached letter.

As Terry Wogan says last year was good but I am sure we can break that total this year! £ 700 :)

Thank you

Nigel

Sunday 24 November 2013

Central United 6 v 1 Central AC U10s (friendly)

It was a really good workout yesterday against Central AC, although once again, we took a while to get going (Grrrrrr!!!) and as a result conceded an early goal.  However, we soon responded with an equaliser scored by Euan Land, who also displayed some very silky skills down the left wing.  Zak Milling scored our second with a good strike, taking us into half time 2-1 to the good.

The half time pep talk seem to have an effect, as in the second half it was pretty much one way traffic.  There was some great passing and more shots on goal, 4 of which ended up in the back of the net; scored by Ollie Banwell (who just can't stop scoring!), new signing Pacey Large x2 (looks like there could be plenty more from where they came from!) and another from Zak Milling (our star striker!).

This weeks 'worth a mention'

Andrew Lapworth's stunning long range strike that hit the crossbar, Zak Bernard and Francis Blewett's excellent wide play and much improved performances from Ty Pardew and Mattie Horwell and the usual solid display from George Caton-Pike at the back.

Well done guys!  See you tomorrow.

Just a gentle reminder re the social event on 14th December.  I need responses before 24th, which is Sunday, if anyone wants to go.

Something that might be of interest?

Hi Junior Football Clubs.

Would your team enjoy a footy afternoon with Exeter City FC?

Would your players, their brothers and sisters, and yourself as mum or dad like to take part in the Exeter City FC Charity Santa Dash on Saturday 30thNovember?

It is a fun afternoon taking part in the one mile Santa Dash from Exeter High Street at 1.15pm then watching Exeter City play Bury at 3pm.
You can also raise money for the charity of your choice, perhaps the Adam Stansfield Foundation, Devon Air Ambulance or whatever charity is closest to your heart.

Under 18’s receive a Santa Suit and a ticket for the Exeter City v Bury game for just £5. Adults get the same for £17, Season ticket holders are £5
This price ‘should’ include a ticket on the standing Big Bank area, but for Junior football clubs I am happy to block off seats in one of the two grandstands as a ‘free’ upgrade.

To book your place contact david.evans@exetercityfc.co.uk, call 07827 871723 or pop in to the Exeter City FC Club Reception.

Merry Christmas.

David

14th December

It's our turn to do the snack bar and man the changing rooms on 14th December so can I have some volunteers please? Anne, my wife, and Helen, Sean Law's mum, have agreed to help with the snack bar but can we have another helper please? (I will bring along the urns filled with hot water and Sean's dad has agreed to help with the refills).

With regard to the changing rooms, they need to be manned from 1.30pm to 4.30pm during which time internal doors to individual changing rooms will need unlocking and locking back up again as and when required.  The shifts that need covering are:

1.30pm-2.15pm
2.15pm-3pm
3pm-3.45pm
3.45pm-4.30pm

By the way, this is not a job for females!

I need to go to a play my daughter's in so I can't do a shift myself but I will go back later on and do all the clearing up that is required, so all the last person has to do is lock up.

The club employ a company to do this work on a Sunday at a substantial cost but, unfortunately, are not currently in a financial position to do the same for Saturday's, so do need to rely on volunteers from each team a few times a season.

Many thanks.

Friendly

Instead of training on Saturday we are going to be playing a friendly against one of Nigel's teams, as they don't have a fixture either.  Can you let me know if your son can't make it, otherwise please be at KG for 10am - thanks!

Sunday 17 November 2013

New person on Monday

Hi everyone, my brother is going to be helping me and Jon out for the next few months for the volunteering section of his DofE. Be nice to him, do what he says and listen to any advice he gives you - defenders especially, he's a very good centre back so hopefully should be able to teach you a couple of things. See you on Monday!

Joe

Saturday 16 November 2013

Today's game

Thank you boys for making the really long trip to Bideford today.

It's no fun getting beat like that but Bideford are an excellent team with a squad of 18 strong players, which is why they were able to make substitutions every few minutes. Unfortunately we, on the other hand, were missing a few players and didn't have a single outfield sub which made it harder for us to keep the score at a more respectable level.  This was always going to the toughest fixture of the season so please don't be too upset about it.  To put it into context, the Bideford Manager said after the game that they beat a Division 1 team in the cup last week 9-0 and that it could have easily have been 20-0.  This shows the sort of standard they are at and demonstrates that they have clearly been placed in the wrong division.  However, its all experience for us to draw on for the future and looking on the bright side, we don't have to play them away again :-)

Captains armband for next game goes to Sean Laws for showing great improvement to his game - well done Sean.

I will not be at training on Monday as have to go in hospital for an operation but Joe will be there who is going to take you through some set pieces with you so please make sure you listen to him.

There is no fixture next Saturday but I would like to do some training instead so will blog details about this in the week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thursday 14 November 2013

Under 11s Social Event

The parents for City have suggested a Christmas social event for both teams as per email below.  Please let me know if you would like to go so I can give numbers.

Following a brief chat with parents at training last night, the overall feeling was that we would very much like to organise a joint City / Utd Xmas Social so I've made a provisional booking for the Long Room at The Waterfront for Saturday 14th December at 12.30pm (we are both at home that day I think). They can accommodate more people than Pizza Hut who said they'd struggle to take a booking of 40 on a Saturday!

They have suggested the Pizza Party Buffet (see here http://www.waterfrontexeter.co.uk/buffet-options) which is £9.95 per adult (excluding drinks and dessert) and would be £6.95 for kids (excluding drinks and dessert). This would seem the easiest option as it means we don't have to take individual orders and can have the food ready for when we arrive.

In order to make this a firm booking, we'd need to pay a £5 per head deposit by the end of November (they'd like it by 24th November but can give us an extra week), plus final numbers and confirmed menu choice by start December.

Tuesday 12 November 2013

Saturday's game

It's Bideford Blues away on Saturday, KO is the usual 10.30am.  If you could try and get there at least 20 minutes before that would be good.  Please let me know if your son cannot make it.

The address is Sandymere Centre, Bideford, EX39 1XX and here are the directions given by their manager:

If you head down the A361 towards Barnstaple then join the A39 to bideford at the roundabout after the Bideford bridge turn right heading towards Northam and drive following the road to Northam burrows we are located on the left,

Look forward to seeing you there.

By the way, their Manager said that they will be doing sausage and chips for all the boys after the game.

Sunday 10 November 2013

Central United 2-7 St Martins

A tough game as expected yesterday and whilst the best team won on the day but I think the scoreline flattered them.  I thought we made a decent start to game and gave as good as we got but unfortunately  conceded 3 scrappy goals taking us into the break 3-0 down. Less than a minute after kick off Zak Milling scored after making an excellent run and another comeback looked on the cards, but once they got their forth their confidence grew and they started passing really well showing why they are a division 1 side.  Ollie continued his goal scoring run with a late consolation goal as well as making an amazing acrobatic save earlier on in the game earning him the captains armband for the next game.

The good news is that being knocked out in the first round means we automatically go into the Under 11's Plate Competition.  I don't know much about it yet but think it's a day tournament and have heard that it's normally good fun - I will let you know details nearer the time.

I hope you all like your new jackets which were also paid for by the sponsorship money I got from my work - all spent now!

Look forward to seeing you at training tomorrow.

Wednesday 6 November 2013

Cup Match

We have a cup match against St Martins on Saturday at King George, please be there for 10am. Joe and I will get there early to put the goals up but help with the nets like last week would be much appreciated.  St Martins are in division 1 so it will be a tough game but no reason why we shouldn't do well again if everyone does their best.  All of the pitches are being used so it's going to be busy and therefore the club have asked if you could use the car park at the rear.

Saturday 2 November 2013

Central United 4 - 3 CW Dynamoes

Well……the new shirts seemed to do the trick today.  A big well done boys to all of you for a great performance and showing real grit and determination to come back from being 2-0 down - the win was thoroughly deserved.

Conceding 2 goals in quick succession early on gave us plenty to do but you kept plugging away.  Zak Milling's had a good attempt saved at the near post but then went on to score a superb long range free kick that got us back into the game just before half time.  With the wind behind us in the second half we dominated the game scoring 3 goals, 2 coming from Matthew Williams and the other from Ollie Banwell in his cameo striker role.

It was all hands to the pump for the last 5 minutes following Dynamoes' third goal from a free kick but our new look defence, with Joseph Gray in the middle and Zak Bernard on the left, stood strong.

Man of the match
Matthew Williams wins the captains armband for the next game for his outstanding all round display - well done Matt.

Friday 1 November 2013

New shirts

To prolong the life of the new shirts as much as possible can you note the following advice given by the printer's please?
  • wash inside out
  • wash at 40 degrees or below
  • do not tumble dry
  • do not iron
Basically, just leave it in the kit bag until next game and you can't go far wrong!!!

Thursday 31 October 2013

Central United v CW Dynamoes

Weather permitting, Saturday's game is at home against Countess Wear Dynamoes.  Please can you be there for 9.45am so I can hand out the new shirts and take a team photo?  Thanks.

Exeter City Letter

I've not seen the Exeter City day out letter yet but I have been told it's asking you to attend a game in the past, which might be a tad tricky!  I can confirm 8th February is the correct date for the Portsmouth game but in 2014!!

Sunday 27 October 2013

Training

It looks like the weather might be calmer by tomorrow evening so, for now, training is on and Joe will be taking it.  Joe has all your numbers so he will send a text out if it's called off.

Friday 25 October 2013

Match postponed

I'm afraid tomorrow's game has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so have to wait another week to don the new shirts - they look very smart by the way!  I'm away on Monday, however Joe is happy to take training but looking at weather forecast it's likely to be cancelled; I will let you know nearer the time.

Wednesday 23 October 2013

Good news

I have managed to get some sponsorship from the company I work for to pay for new shirts.  They are currently with the printers but I have been told they will be ready for me to collect in time for Saturday's game.  Can you therefore try and be on time so I can hand them all out before the warm up.  Hopefully, i've ordered the right sizes!!!

Lympstone Lympets v Central United

Saturday's game is against Lympstone Lympets away.  KO is 10.30am so please be there for 10am.  If your son can't make it can you let me know please.  The pitch is where we had the pre-season friendly.  For those who were not there the address is Burgmanns Hill, Lympstone, Exmouth, EX8 5HP.  If you take first turning off main road into Lympstone and follow road until you get to Burgmanns Hill you will see a field on your right hand side with a big gate.  Last time we were able to park in the field, the pitch is then across a little foot bridge right by the estuary.

Sunday 20 October 2013

Central United 2 - 3 Okehampton

Another slow start yesterday which is always hard to recover from but you looked a completely different team in the second half; it was all one way traffic and how we didn't end up wining the game I'll never know - they were really hanging on and longing for that final whistle.  I'm thinking I should provide oranges before the game too as they seem to do the trick!

Our 2 goals were scored by Zak Millings and super sub striker Ollie Banwell.  Matthew Williams went desperately close with a rasping long range shot that nearly knocked the goal over.

Zak Milling win's the captains armband for next game for playing so well and showing great attitude when being moved out of position.  Asher Rutherford's excellent performance is also worth a mention who's proving to be a great addition to the squad and Ty Pardew showed real improvement with some brave challenges in defence.

Despite losing I was still really pleased with the progress your making; you played some really nice football so well done.

Like I said at the end of the game, please disregard the league table right now, as you will not be there at the end of the season if you carry on improving like you are.

Here's a link to a few photos Anne took with my phone http://www.flickr.com/photos/100848770@N07/sets/72157636759499954/

See you Monday!

Thursday 17 October 2013

Saturday's game

Saturday's game is against Okehampton at home. KO is 10.30am so please be there for 10am.  If your son cannot make it please let me know.

Wednesday 16 October 2013

Snack stall

There are a few Saturday's that under 11's have been assigned the task of managing the snack stall at King George; this Saturday is one of them, so if there is anyone willing to volunteer to help out then please let me know. Thanks

Saturday 12 October 2013

Photos

Glad you all could make it today at Clifton Hill and hope you enjoyed yourselves.  I have added some photos, although quite a few are blurry as my camera couldn't cope with the the sheer speed of you guys! Hope to see you Monday at training.

Tuesday 8 October 2013

Clifton Hill

Looks like we have enough for Clifton Hill on Saturday so I have confirmed the booking.  We have the hall for an hour from 12.30am so please be there a few minutes before and don't forget to bring a drink - you'll need it!  Look forward to seeing you there.

Sunday 6 October 2013

5-a-side

As we do not have a fixture next Saturday I have provisionally booked Clifton Hill sports hall between 12.30pm and 1.30pm for the boys to play 5-a-side against each other - this will be instead of training at King George's in the morning.  Please let me know, by text, email or comment here, if your son can make it as I need to confirm booking tomorrow evening - cost £2 each.

New photos

I have added some new photos to the site, taken by one of the City parent's.  Click on Photos tab to see!  Hopefully, we will have a decent turn out for next league game so will take a team photo then.

Saturday 5 October 2013

Today's game

A really good first half today and I felt we were unlucky go into the break 1-0 down with Andrew Lapworth and Francis Blewett going really close.

There were some very tired legs in the second half due to our lack of options to give breathers and as a result we conceded 5 goals but did manage to get a consolation goal scored by Andrew Lapworth.

George Caton-Pike wins the captain's armband for the next match for his superb efforts today.

We do not have a game next week but thought all you boys might like to play 5 a-side against each other if I hire a sports hall.  Cost would be no more than £2 each so can parents please let me know if your son can make it and I will try and sort something out.

Tuesday 1 October 2013

City v United

Despite only having 7 players available Saturday the game is going ahead, as Mark has kindly agreed to also field 7 players.  Please be at King George for 10am - KO 10.30am.

Mark is going to book Pizza Hut for 12.15pm to get the players together after the game.  If your son would like to go can you let me know tomorrow so I can give Mark numbers please.

Sunday 29 September 2013

Saturday 5th October

The league are being very awkward about re-arranging Saturday's game against Central City, so it looks like the fixture will have to go ahead.  I am aware of the following players who cannot make it, Matthew Williams, Euan Land, Zak Millings and Asher Rutherford.  Can parents of the other players confirm whether or not they can play asap please?  Many thanks.

Saturday 28 September 2013

Match postponed

Due to thunder and lightning forecasted until lunchtime i'm afraid today's game against Tiverton Town has been cancelled.

Tuesday 24 September 2013

Next match

We are home to Tiverton Town Youth on Saturday, KO 10.30am.  Please be there for 10am and make sure you eat your Weetabix! ;-)

Saturday 21 September 2013

CS Leopards 7-2 Central United

We were really slow to get going today boys and as a result conceded 2 really soft early goals.  This seemed to knock our confidence levels and we let in a further 2 goals before half-time.   Second half was much better with us putting some nice passes together resulting in 2 good goals by Euan Land, Ollie Banwell hitting the crossbar and Andrew Lapworth going really close with a great shot.

Don't be too disappointed as it's only our 2nd game and we did only have a bare 9 due to players missing.  Hopefully, we will be back to full strength next week and will have learnt from some of our mistakes today, so onwards and upwards to the next game!!

Match Fees

Sorry all but another request i'm afraid.  May I ask that you bring along to training a cheque for £42 to cover match fees up until the end of the year please?  The club needs this money in before Friday's AGM meeting.  If would prefer to make a transfer to the clubs' bank account then please let me know and I will forward you the relevant details.

Training Cost

The charge for training this season is £2 per session and there will be a pot for you to put the money in next to a clipboard with a form for you to sign to confirm you child's attendance.  Can I ask that you do this for each session automatically - thank you.

I'm being chased for Player Registration Fees as the club would like to have all monies in by next Friday's AGM (parents are welcome to attend this by the way, 7pm start), so if you have not already paid may I ask that you bring cash or cheque for £15 to training on Monday please?  Thanks.

Central United 0 v 5 Colyton Redsocks

A tough first game this morning and whilst the result disappointing and an unfair reflection on the game I think there are a lot of positives to take away.  You all worked really hard and put some good passing moves together, nearly resulting in a couple of goals.  Hope to see you at training on Monday at Exeter School, 7-8pm.

First match

It's first game of the season on Saturday at home against Colyton Redsocks, KO 10.30am.  If you are able to get there at 9.45am to help with the goals it would be much appreciated - they are bigger and more complicated i've been told!!

7th September

Unless you've told me already can you please let me know by text, email or just post here, whether or not your son can play in our first game of the season on 7th September?  Many thanks.

Football Kit

With the start of the season fast approaching I need to make sure that every player has a full set of kit and that it fits!  Can you therefore let me know, by email or SMS, what your son needs please?  For the new boys, I already have shirt, shorts and socks on my list so no need to reply.

Thanks.

Well done to all the lads who played in tonight's game - great effort!

Tomorrow's Lympstone Friendly

Please be there as close to 6pm as you can - KO is 6.30pm. Address is Cliff Field, Burgmans Hill, EX8 5JY.   I have borrowed a set of old Central shirts just for this game so we have 9 the same and have a few spare pairs of socks and shorts.   See you there!
