Central United 3-1 Axminster Town

On a pitch that resembled a meadow more than a playing surface and against a physical Axminster team this was a potential banana skin fixture, so it was important we didn't concede the first goal for the 4th consecutive match.  Zac Burnard made sure this wasn't the case when he out jumped his marker to direct a good header past the Axminster keeper to put us 1-0 up.

Whilst we were the better side for the rest of the half, Axminster missed two really good chances to equalise; emphasising that more goals were needed.  In the second half two  came in quick succession via a brilliant solo goal by Alfie who then turned provider with a great low cross into the 6 yard box for Matt to run onto and blast home to make it 3-0.

With about 10 minutes to go Axminster got a glimmer of hope when the referee aloud a free kick to be taken a long way from the originating foul, which ended up being scrambled into the net for what ended up to be just a consolation goal.

Man of the Match goes to Zac Burnard for getting that all important first goal and putting in real shift in midfield despite not feeling 100%.

Well done all for another great result, only two more games to go with second place still all to play for!

Central United 4-3 St Martins

What a fantastic game of football on Tuesday night.  In the first half we looked a shadow of the team that played on Saturday and soon found ourselves 2-0 down, which it remained until half time leaving us with a mountain to climb but an early 2nd half goal by Oakley, a stunner from outside the box right into the top corner, changed the match.

From that moment on we took the game by the scruff of the neck and were the better team.  An in-form Alfie got on the scoresheet yet again to level things before a St Martins own goal put us ahead 3-2.

The last 10 minutes saw plenty of St Martins pressure and it looked like we would hold on until they broke through and equalised just before 80 minutes was up but the game was not over; in the dying seconds of injury time Ollie produced a huge kick that bounced high over the St Martins keeper and Alfie reacted the quickest to get on the end of it to side foot the ball into the net for the winner.

Another really impressive display lads, once again coming from behind to beat a strong team.  The win takes us 2nd in the league with 3 games to play.

Man of the Match goes to Marcus who was superb at the back.

Next training is Wednesday 6.30-7.30pm at KGV followed by Axminster home on the Saturday.

For those who can make it, the end of season awards are on Sunday at The Corn Exchange, 2pm.

Central United 6-4 Heavitree Youth

It's was only our third game of year and with only a bare 11 and no Ollie in goal against a strong Heavitree team we certainly had our work cut out. For the first 10 minutes or so we were nervy, mistiming tackles and looking like a team that had not played for some time and Heavitree took full advantage of this going ahead with a long range strike right into the top corner leaving Zak with no chance to save.

Almost immediately after that we started to find our feet and it wasn't long before we hit back when Marcus did really well to get on the end of high ball in the box and loop a header over the Heavitree keeper. From that moment on we went from strength to strength playing some brilliant football and Alfie ran the Heavitree defence ragged scoring a hat-tick to give us a impressive 4-1 lead.  Just before half-time some casual passing across the back lead to Heavitree pulling a goal back.

In the second half Alfie bagged 2 more excellent goals to extend our lead to 6-2 which looked to have wrapped up the points for us until Heavitree got their third followed by a sustained spell of pressure but some solid defending and some good saves by Zak kept them at bay.

What a brilliant performance and great win - well done lads!

Man of the Match has to go to Alfie for his work rate and 5 brilliantly taken goals.

A big thank you to Zak Milling for stepping up and going in goal. As an outfield player it's not easy to play in goal but Zak made some important saves and was excellent coming off his line to collect lose balls.

No training Monday as we have a game against St Martins on Tuesday at KGV. I will let you time but i'm trying to arrange for 6pm KO. Please let me know if you are unable to make it.

Next week

Hi all

I've had no response from the league which probably means we are not allowed to play our game against Alphington on a different date and therefore have to forfeit the points.  As numbers are so low tomorrow there is no training but I'm thinking a longer session Wednesday would be a good idea as we might actually be playing a game of football next Saturday!

Can you let me know asap if your son can make training at KGV on Wednesday 6-7.30pm and the game on the 14th April against Heavitree.

Also, Players Player of the Year nominations please.

Thanks.

Hi all

Just to confirm KGV is still waterlogged so no training this evening.  I'll see how it is Wednesday and let you know as would be good for those available to catch up for a kickabout.
