Training cancelled

I've just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow and it looks pretty awful all day so I've decided to cancel training.  Have a great Christmas everyone!

Kentisbeare Colts 1-2 Central United

It was a real gritty performance today boys, you all worked your socks off for each other which was great to see.

In the first half we played some nice football despite the boggy pitch and deservedly took the lead through a well worked goal scored by Andrew. Francis was a constant threat down the right hand side and went close on several occasions before finding the back of the net to give us a 2-0 lead, which was preserved until half time due to some superb saves by Ollie.

Kentisbeare are a big side and their physicality showed in the second half as we tired on the heavy pitch. Midway through the second half we conceded a scrappy goal and then had to defend for our lives on a few occasions to hang onto all 3 points.

Man of the Match and captain's armband goes to Pacey for his work rate, hard tackling and for showing such dedication in having to take 2 buses and a taxi to get to the game - i'm glad the trip was worth it!

It was great to end 2013 on a high so well done all!

Training will continue as normal but I appreciate some of you will have other commitments, so if I don't see you on Monday have a great Christmas.

Training

I will be about 10 minutes late for training tomorrow but Joe will be there to take the start so please do as he says.

Xmas do

If you go to 'Photos' tab on blog there are some Xmas do pics.

Central United 0 - 4 Brixington United

Thank you all so much for my bottle of champers and voucher, I was not expecting that!  It was a lovely gesture and much appreciated.  I'm afraid it's not looking like we are going to win the league this year, so I might as well enjoy the bubbly now! Every cloud!! ;-)

Regarding yesterday's game, the scoreline definately flattered Brixington.  I thought we did really well in the first half and deserved to go into the break at least 1 goal ahead. For some reason we struggled to find our rhythm in the second half but still managed to keep things level until the last 15 minutes, during which time we conceded 4 goals in quick succession giving us no time to respond.

Man of the Match goes to Matthew Williams for his superb work rate and playing so well despite having to play out of position.  Matthew - as you have had the captains armband before and I want to share the captain's duties around over the season I hope you don't mind, on this occasion, me giving it to Joseph who I felt had a solid game at left back.

It was good to see such a good turn out at the Waterfront for a continuous conveyor belt of dustbin lid pizzas - I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Finally, a big thank you to those of you who helped with the snack bar and changing rooms.  You'll be glad to know that City will be taking care of it all in February meaning we don't have to do it again until next season.

Central United 2 - 0 Sidmouth Raiders

What a difference a week makes!  You should all be very proud of yourselves; you all played your part in today's victory and it was great to get our first clean sheet of the season.  You took last weeks criticism on the chin and did something about it.

Whilst we dominated most of the first half with some lovely wide play by Zac Burnard and Euan Land we struggled to make a breakthrough and went in at half time all square.

Re-energised after the oranges and playing down hill in the second half the game was only going to go one way.  We had more shots on goal and Francis Blewett was really unlucky not to score with a couple of great strikes heading for the far corner.  The deadlock was finally broken by Zac Burnard who nearly broke the net with absolute thunderbolt of a shot!  It was only a matter of time before we got our second and this came from Ollie Banwell with a very cute finish in off the post.

Zac Burnard was awesome today in midfield showing both great work rate and link up play and fully deserves the captains armband next game - well done Zac.

Worth a mention

Francis put in his best performance of the season, despite not playing in his preferred position, giving the team real impetus down the right hand side and Sean Laws put in a real dogged display in the first half and through shear determination made a superb clearance off the line - exactly the attitude Joe and  I want to see so please take note! There were also improved defensive performances by Joseph Gray and Ty Pardew.

Well done all!

Couple of things!

To save Mark a load of hassle collecting money at the Xmas do may I ask those who have not paid in full do so on Saturday please? I can then transfer the monies to Mark in one go.

Regarding Tesco on Sunday, can you make sure you son wears his Central shirt please.

Many thanks

Saturday's game

Saturday's fixture is Sidmouth away, however they have an issue with pitch availability due to their under 12's also playing at home, so I have agreed for them to come to us and we'll play them away in March.  Also, I have brought forward KO to 10am as I know some of you have other commitments to get to - I hope this is ok with everyone.  Please let me know if your son can't make it, otherwise 9.40am at King George please.

Sunday 1 December 2013

Tesco bag day

Can you let me know if your son is unable to make the Tesco fundraiser next Sunday please?

Xmas do

Jonathan Lippman has printed some tickets for the Xmas do at the Waterfront, so I will hand these out to the boys tomorrow for those who have paid.  If anyone else would like to go please let me know asap please.

Central United 2 - 9 West Exe Youth

Well….. I think its best to be completely honest with you boys, and I thought that the manner of yesterday's defeat was a little  disappointing.  We started the game quite well and things were pretty even for first 10 minutes but then we conceded a goal and for the rest of the half we lost heart.  We gave them far too much space and seemed quite happy to let them shoot without closing them down or getting any sort of challenge in, with the exception of George who worked tirelessly in this area and for this he gets the captains armband next game - well done George!

Well into the second half, our new signing Pacey scored a fully deserved goal and then all of a sudden you started playing again with Francis, who was showing some real quality down the left wing, getting us a second shortly after; we also went very close with several other attempts and were unlucky not to get a couple more - it shows that you can do it when you want to!

You're a great bunch of lads and all have ability but it's very frustrating not seeing you fulfil your potential due to being too considerate to other teams and showing a lack of determination - this has to change if you want to win games - after all we are playing competitive football this year.

Anyway, the good news is we have plenty more games to put things right and we are going to be taking a different approach in training going forward that should help.

Something else I wanted to mention is that we have a squad of 14 players meaning that if everyone is present we have 5 subs (more than half a team) making it impossible to give everyone a full game, so don't be disheartened if you get taken off as it's not because you are playing badly just that i'm trying to be fair and make sure everyone gets a decent amount of game time.

Being sub is a good opportunity to practice and get to know your team mates better, so in future games I will be giving you some drills to do together.

I look forward to seeing you at training tomorrow.
