Sunday 10 December 2017

Alphington 3-0 Central Utd

Another 3-0 loss against Alphington and again an unfair reflection on the game.  Whilst Alphington had more possession in the first half and played some excellent football we actually had the better chances and could have easily found ourselves 2-0 up but a lapse in concentration saw them, fortuitously, take the lead.  Their second came soon after but this time via a well taken goal.

Whilst disappointed and surprised at being 2-0 down the half time team talk was still positive and this was taken into the second half when we were the better team but despite lots of endeavour, unfortunately, we couldn't find the back of the net. Going 3 at the back for an extra man up front for the last 20 it was inevitable Alphington would get a chance which they did and managed to put it away which was a real proverbial kick in the teeth.

As mentioned after the game, despite the loss there's a lot to be positive about, especially the second half performance.  Alphington are the best team in the league but they certainly knew they had been in a game and will feel fortunate to win by a 3 goal margin.

Man of the Match goes to Euan for his constant closing down and link up play in attack.

Luke deserves a mention for some more brilliant defending.

See you tomorrow for our last training session of the year!

Friendly

I've had to cancel Sunday's friendly as we only have, at most, 10 players available.  However, I have managed to arrange another game for the 16th December at KGV.

Hopefully, being a Saturday, we will have enough but I would appreciate it if you could let me know if your son is unable to make it.

Thanks
Jon

Sunday 26 November 2017

Axminster Town 1-2 Central United

It was a cracking venue for a football match and ideal conditions too and we made the most of it with some scintillating football which was a pleasure to watch.

We started really brightly and Oakley soon put us ahead with an excellent low driving shot from the edge of the penalty area that nestled nicely into the bottom left hand corner of the net.  From then on it was one way traffic with Axminster being run ragged with our quick precise passing and the chances kept coming but unfortunately we just couldn't find the back of the net.

The second half was much the same but we did eventually get a second when Kaden, instinctively, got on the end of a good delivery into the box and smashed the ball home.  The points looked wrapped up until Axminster got one back via a corner which put us on edge for the last 10 minutes.  In a game which could so easily have been 5 or 6-1 anything other than 3 points would have been a massive injustice.

Man of the Match goes to Kaden for not only getting on the score sheet yet again but for his brilliant link up play as well as demonstrating such great skill and ball control throughout the game.

Oakley and George deserve a mention for dominating the centre midfield.

Still unbeaten in the league and now joint top, so a big well done chaps!

We don't have a game next week but I've been offered a friendly on Sunday morning.  I need to respond asap so if you are unable to make it can you let me know today please.

See you at training tomorrow.

Jon

Sunday 19 November 2017

Central United 4-2 Sidmouth Warriors

A good result yesterday but we did make hard work of it allowing Sidmouth to score 2 quick goals in the second half to peg us back to 3-2.  It was nervy stuff for a bit but we did well to regain control of the game creating plenty of good chances and scoring a forth to seal the 3 points.

Goals scorers, Alfie 2, Euan and Kaden and Man of the Match goes to Oakley who worked hard in midfield, showed some real quality on the ball and was really unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Luke deserves a mention for some brilliant last ditch tackles.

Still unbeaten in the league chaps so well done!

See you at training tomorrow.  On that note, I forgot to mention yesterday that I've had a complaint from one of the younger age groups that their sessions are being interrupted by some of you playing on the astro before it's our turn, so can you all make sure you wait patiently on the side until 7pm please - thanks.

Friendly

Hi all

I've arranged a friendly on Saturday against Lympstone away. The pitch is different from where we played previously and is on the road opposite the Marine Camp main entrance, then about 100 yards past the car park on your right.

Everyone will get a decent amount of game time but those who have been sub regularly will get a bit more.  Please let me know asap if you are unable to make it.

Jon

Sunday 5 November 2017

Central United 0-3 Alphington

It was a well contested cup tie yesterday and much closer than the scoreline suggests.  We played well and were a match for Alphington but once again we gifted the opposition goals, which was frustrating as our defending was so good for the majority of the game.  Marcus in particular, Man of the Match, was superb again with some strong and brave tackling.

See you all at training tomorrow!

Jon

Thursday 2 November 2017

Saturday

Saturday's game is home to Alphington in the cup.  Due to pitch congestion KO has been brought forward to 10am so 9.30am meet please.

See you then.

Jon

Sunday 29 October 2017

Central United 1-1 Central City

A well contested game yesterday in which both teams had their dominant spells.  City got their noses in front early on scoring via a good free kick delivery into the box but we hit back later in the half with another Kaden special.

The game could have gone either way in the second half but it produced no goals, so a stalemate it ended which I think was a fair refection of the game.

Man of the Match goes to Joseph for some excellent defending and composure playing out from the back.

See you at training tomorrow.

Jon

Thursday 26 October 2017

A couple of things

Hi all

There's no match or training on Saturday but training as usual on Monday and then it's Central City the following Saturday.

A change of fixture to tell you about.  Axminster Town Youth away has been moved to 25th November.

Jon

Sunday 15 October 2017

Twyford Spartans 1-1 Central Utd

Twyford away is always a tough fixture and yesterday was no different. Whilst they did well to stifle our passing game the referee played a big part in this too by blowing up for absolutely everything; he did do this for both teams but I think the constant stop/start affected our game more.

We went ahead early on when Alfie pounced on a lose ball to slot the ball home but Twyford fought back hard and managed to equalise later in the half.  The second half brought good chances for both teams, some great saves by both keepers but no goals, so honours even it was.

Man of the Match goes to Luke who kept things tight all game at right back.

See you at training tomorrow!

Jon

Training

Hi all

I'll be at KGV tomorrow 10-11am.  If we have enough I will put the nets up and we can have a match amongst ourselves.

Jon

Sunday 1 October 2017

Brixington Blues 3-7 Central United

A lacklustre start yesterday saw us go behind in the first few minutes and things didn't really improve much for the rest of the first half, although we did manage to go into the break ahead.  We were much better in the second half and ended up winning the game comfortably and if it wasn't for their keeper it would have easily been double figures.

Goalscorers - Kaden hat-trick, Zak WD 1, Zak Milling 1, Oakley 1, Alfie 1

Man of the Match goes to Kaden for his creative play going forward and quick fire hat-trick.  George also gets a mention for a solid hard working performance.

Training as usual tomorrow!

Jon

Thursday 28 September 2017

Brixington in the cup

Hi all

It's Brixington Blues away in the cup on Saturday, 10:30am KO so 10am meet please. As discussed at training I'm not selecting a team for this one, so everyone who comes along will get a decent amount of game time.  Please let me know if you are not going to be there.

Address:

Exmouth Archery Club
Withycombe Raleigh
Exmouth

I'm told their car park is likely to be busy so if you are able to car share then might be a good idea.

Look forward to seeing you then!

Jon

Sunday 24 September 2017

Central United 7-1 Colyton Youth

Well done lads for a really impressive performance yesterday; solid defending, some great football and superb goals (Alfie hat-trick, Kaden 2, Oakley 1, Euan 1).

On the subject of goals I have to mention Kaden's first which I would go as far to say it was probably the best goal I have ever seen, and probably likely to see, in youth football.  An acrobatic volley in mid air connecting straight from a long corner to smash it pass the keeper, incredible technique and skill.  If only it could have been caught on video!

There were a few contenders for Man of the Match but i've given it to Oakley who was at the heart of everything, both tracking back winning the ball and creativity going forward, including a fantastic goal from long range.

Brixington Blues away next week in the first round of the cup.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow, 7-8pm.  Lets hope the lights don't fail again this week!

See you then!

Jon

Parking

Hi all

I'm afraid the travellers are back at KGV so the main car park might be even more hectic than normal tomorrow, so it might be better to use the one on the other side.

Training

I've been trying to arrange a friendly for Saturday but had no joy i'm afraid, so it will be training at KGV, 10-11am.

Hopefully see you then!

Jon

Sunday 10 September 2017

Heavitree Youth 1-1 Central United

It was a tough opening fixture against a good Heavitree team.  A brilliantly taken goal by Alfie gave us a 1-0 lead early on but that advantage was wiped out in the second half following a break down in communication at the back.  Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was probably a fair result in the end and at least gets us off the mark!

Man of the Mach goes to Marcus for a really commanding performance at centre back.

Training is at Exeter School tomorrow night, 7-8pm.  Note that there is a new gated entrance on Barrack Rd which requires a pin to get in and out - 462991.

Jon

Thursday 7 September 2017

See you then!

A few developments

Hi all

A few developments to tell you about.

As some of you are already aware Euan and Pacey have decided to leave Central and join other clubs; I’m sure you will join me in wishing them all the best for the future.

Aaron, who many of you have already met at training, has decided to join us and looks to be an excellent addition to our squad.

On the management side of things, i'm pleased to confirm Dean is officially coming on board with Luke and I, which will be a great help both on match days and at training.  Dean comes with lots of experience and enthusiasm and i'm sure we'll all benefit from his input.

Regarding friendlies, I’m doing my best to arrange a few but as always it's hard to find pitches with the council putting up the goals so late.  Hopefully, we will have our usual one on the Estuary at Lympstone, date to be confirmed.  One of the Central U14s teams have asked for a friendly so this has been arranged for Wednesday 30th August at KGV, 6.30pm KO, please let me know if you are unable to make it.

Training will become more regular as of next week when we will be at KGV on Tuesday, 6.30pm-7.30pm.

I'm not going to be able to make training this week but will be at KGV next Wednesday 6.15-7.15pm.

Monday 26 June 2017

Kick about

Hi all

I'll be at King George on Wednesday 6pm - 6.45pm for anyone who wants a kick about.

Jon

Tuesday 30 May 2017

Hi all

I know the season has only recently ended but I could do with a heads up regarding numbers for next season, as I have already had a number of enquiries from new players interested in joining us.  Therefore, if the following applies to you I would appreciate you letting me know asap so that I can ensure we have a full squad next season:
  • Not intending to register again for next season
  • Intending on doing the Ten Tors event again (I was fortunate to be able to change fixtures last season due games being spread out over a longer period but I've been told this is unlikely to be the case next season)
  • Likely to miss several games due to other sports/interests.
Thanks.

Jon

Friday 19 May 2017

Cullompton Rangers 2-7 Central United

Coming off the back of a disappointing result at the weekend and going a goal down in the first couple of minutes on Wednesday it was a good to see some character from you all to come back and finish the season on a high note with a comfortable 7-2 victory.

Man of the Match was a real tricky one to call but I think Alfie just about edges it for his 6 goal rout!!

I hope you have all enjoyed yourselves this season; thank you for your efforts and a big well done for achieving our highest ever finish.  We've shown progression ever year since the days of being rock bottom of Division 2 and enduring some hammerings (remember the 14-0 Bideford trip!!) to winning a cup, getting promotion and now establishing ourselves as a strong Division 1 team with a respectable top half finish and reaching the semi finals of the cup.  Lets look to improve on that again next season!

As discussed after the game i'm more than happy to arrange the odd kickaround at KGV over the summer for those who want to come along, so I'll be in touch.

Enjoy the break!

Jon

Monday 15 May 2017

Central United 2-4 Sidmouth Raiders

It was a much improved Sidmouth Raiders team on Saturday but still a team we should have beaten.  We were lacklustre and played like the season was already over and as a result come unstuck.

Zak Milling put us ahead with a calmly taken penalty but Sidmouth equalised before half time via one of their dangerous long throws into the box. They came out the more energetic in the second half and deserved to go ahead but instead of this kicking us into action our play got scrappier and it wasn't long before Sidmouth extended their lead.  We eventually hit back with an Alfie goal but Sidmouth then got another to put game out of reach.

Man of the Match goes to Oakley who was at the heart of most of our attacks and displayed some brilliant skill on the ball which was great to watch.

We play Cullompton Rangers on Wednesday at Speed Meadows, Cullompton, EX15 1DW, 6.30pm KO, so can we meet at 6pm.  Squad for the game is:

Ollie
Joseph
Luke
Asher
George
Ted
Pacey
Oakley
Zac B
Zak M
Zak WD
Francis
Marcus
Alfie

See you then!
