Central United v West Exe Youth

Hi all

I hope you had a great Christmas and are feeling refreshed.  Sorry there was no training on Monday but unfortunately Exeter astro was closed.

We have a tough start to 2015 with a game against West Exe who are on bit of a roll, so I need you all turning up raring to go!  It's a 10.30am KO at KGV so can you be there for 10am please.

The rota for the 2nd half of the season can be found by clicking here.  Rest players for West Exe are Andrew, Zak B and Noah.

Look forward to seeing you Saturday.

Happy New Year.

Jon

You did it...! Central United 7-1 Crediton Youth

Congratulations lads, you did it!  Half way through the season undefeated and top of the tree at Xmas (excuse pun!) - what a fantastic achievement.

With 5 players missing today a bit of jiggling around was needed but you once again showed what a versatile bunch you are by still thumping Crediton 7-1 - a scoreline that could have been a whole lot worse for them if they didn't have such a good keeper.

There were some superb goals and great to see a couple more come from corners where we looked really dangerous due to George's pinpoint accurate deliveries.  Marcus displayed real quality up front and bagged another hat-trick and there was another hat-trick for Pacey who had a storming game in centre midfield and for this gets the Man of the Match award - well done Pacey!

Zak Milling had a stint up front and didn't take long to capitalise and score a well taken goal towards the end of the game.

What a great way to end what's been a brilliant first half of the season - you should be really chuffed with yourselves.  Joe and I are both away Monday so no training i'm afraid.  Hope the boys that have been unwell recover in time for the festivities and that you all have a great Christmas. I will be in touch and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year, when we will need to do it all again!

Finally, a really big thank you from us all to all of you for the generous gifts, it was a very kind gesture and much appreciated.

Jon

PS. Check out Stats Zone   We have now scored the same number of goals as we did for the whole of last season and we conceded less goals than we did in our first two games of last season.  Now that's progress!

Wednesday 17 December 2014

Central United v Crediton Youth

It's our last game of the year on Saturday against Crediton Youth at KGV.  KO is the later time of 11am due to issue with pitch availability, so 10.30am meet please.

Look forward to seeing you then!

Rest players are: Sean, Francis and Euan

Sunday 14 December 2014

Brixington United 1-2 Central United

After yesterdays win we remain top of the league with our unbeaten record still in tact, which is great news.  Brixington are one the best footballing teams we played this season and proved to be stern test for us but, fortunately, we just about edged it.

We just didn't get going in the first half, however against the run of play we did go ahead when Zak Milling opened up the blues defence with a lovely through pass for Matt to run onto and score with an amazing strike into the top corner.

Brixington started the second half positively and were rewarded with an good equalising goal that Ollie could do little about.  It wasn't until this point, when our unbeaten record was well and truly under threat, that we started to get the ball down and string some good passes together.  The chances then followed and the winner came from one of Matt's confident surging runs through on goal and he made no mistake with the finish.  For his 2 fantastic goals Matt wins Match of the Match award - well done Matt!

We have one more game and then we will have played every team before going into a well deserved Christmas break.  I think this will do us good, as we are looking a little jaded, which is understandable as you've done so incredibly well so far - certainly exceeded my expectations!  Remember, we are the team that everyone wants to beat and because of this others do raise their game against us making for tough matches, even against lower league opposition.

Well done again on another hard fought win and see you at training Monday.

Brixington United v Central United

Saturday's game is away to Brixington United.  The address is Withycombe Raleigh Common, Outer Ting Tong, Exmouth, EX8 5EE

I'm afraid i've had to bring KO forward to 10am, as I need to be somewhere after the game.  Can we therefore meet at 9.30am please.

Rest players this week are Pacey and Joseph.

Scores on the doors

I hope you all had a good time at bowling last night - click here to see some pics Bowling 65 photos

Congratulations to Team Luke (Asher, Pacey, Zak M and Zak B) for winning over the 2 games and to Luke Anderson for getting the highest overall score of 199.

Sunday 7 December 2014

Central United 4-0 Exeter Panthers

Well done chaps for getting the job done yesterday and another clean sheet too.  If you've not done already check out the stats page on the blog http://centralunitedfc.blogspot.co.uk/p/stats-zone.html  We are the only team to have conceding goals in single figures.

Another stat for you, apart from Bideford we are the only team in all 3 divisions not to lose a league game this season - great achievement!

Back to the game, it was a really subdued and quiet start from both teams but went ahead with a bit of good fortune when a speculative shot from George took a deflection to loop over the head of the Panther's keeper.  Within seconds of Andrew coming on as sub midway through the first half he made it 2-0 by being in the right place at the right time to tap home a good cross into the box from George.

At 2-0 the game was by no means over and Panther's went close a few times. Our captain pulled of one of the best saves i've ever seen diving low to his right to parry away a powerful close range shot.

In the second half Andrew got on the scoresheet again with nicely placed left foot shot into the corner and Marcus made it 4-0 braking clear through on goal, one on one with the keeper and producing a very composed finish.

Man of the Match this week goes to Andrew, not only scoring 2 important goals but for his improved awareness and link up play - well done Andrew!

This was another game where I think we under estimated the opposition as Panther's were a better side than their league position suggests.  Next week we have Brixington United who beat us twice last season so trust me when I say it will be a tough match and one where you will need to turn up raring to go.

If you left a light blue hoody behind yesterday  you can claim it at training tomorrow night.

Friday 5 December 2014

Rest Players

Sorry forgot to mention rest players for this week:

Asher, Matt and Zak M

Thursday 4 December 2014

CS Leopards 1 v 1 Central Utd

I have to say today was one of the most satisfying results of the season so far for me, as no Ted, George and Marcus meant a lot of changes to the starting line up with some playing out of position but you all stood up to be counted and did a sterling job on a stodgy pitch, away from home and against a team that had a 100% record........ and with a goliath in defence! No doubt his ID Card will be out a few times this season!!

We made a bright start but things were pretty even until Francis breached the Leopards defence by beating their keeper to a lose ball and then skilfully taking the ball round him, managing to stay of his feet despite a clattering, and then showing great composure to slot the ball home from an acute angle to score a absolutely brilliant solo goal.

It looked like we were going to get to half-time with the lead but a very dubious free kick, shirt tugging apparently!, was given just outside the penalty area and they took advantage of it with a shot we couldn't do much about.

Both teams had their chances in the second half but, on reflection, I think a draw was probably a fair result and one I would have taken before the game, as it maintains our 3 point gap over Leopards at the top.

Man of the Match this week goes to Zac Burnard who you would never have known was not our usual centre back. A top class performance with loads of commitment - well down Zac and thanks showing great attitude in playing there, as I know it's not your preferred position.

See you at training and well done again on an excellent performance.

Thursday 27 November 2014

CS Leopards V Central Utd

It's CS Leopards away on Saturday - 10am meet please.  The address is Magelake Playing Fields, Uffculme, EX15 3XG.

Rest players: George, Ted, Andrew

See you then!

Sunday 23 November 2014

Bowling

Final call for the bowling on 9th December so can you text or email me if your son would like to go.

West Hill Wasps 2-4 Central United

Another win but boy did we make hard work of it.  I think after last weeks comprehensive victory we thought it was going to be easy but West Hill had other ideas and were the better side in the first half and went into the break a goal to the good.

We started the second half with more purpose and managed to get ourselves back in the game quickly with an excellent strike from Marcus.  Matt scored 2 good goals to put us 3-1 up and we looked in control but then West Hill were awarded a penalty; Ollie did well to save but they were quicker to pounce on the rebound to make it 3-2 and give us a nervous few minutes until Marcus got on the scoresheet again to seal the points for us.

Ollie gets Man of the Match for some incredible saves at crucial points in the game and for coming out of goal to make some important clearances.  Asher deserves a mention for a top performance at left back - good work chaps!

Yesterday shows that league position and past results mean nothing and therefore we need to take the right attitude into every game, whoever we're playing.  Their manager said after the game that this was the first game they had full compliment of players so it actually looks like they're in a false position.

Despite not being at our best you still managed to turn things around and get the win so a big well done for that - sign of a good team!

See you at training tomorrow.

Thursday 20 November 2014

West Hill Wasps v Central Utd

Providing the weather doesn't strike again we are away to West Hill Wasps on Saturday.  Can you be there for 10am please?  See previous post for directions.

Rest players are:  Noah, Sean Francis

Bowling

The boys are keen for me to arrange a social event and bowling seemed to be the top choice, so I have pencilled in Tuesday 9th December at 7pm.  It's half price bowling on a Tuesday's so it works out about a fiver each plus drinks which will be half price too.

I will need to book it and they do require payment up front so can you confirm asap if your son would like to attend?  Please note I will need parents present to help keep tabs on them all but thought it will also be a good opportunity for a mid season catch up away from the elements - like I said it's half price drinks! ;-)

Please can you respond by Sunday at the latest - thanks.

Sunday 16 November 2014

Mighty Milligan!!

Sorry Zak, I have no idea where the journalist got Milligan from as I even spelt out your name to him.  If it's any consolation he spelt my name wrong too!  I think Mr Birley had a bad day at the office as he mentions us being top but the league table lower down the page contradicts this as it's not been updated.

Saturday 15 November 2014

Central United 7-0 Dawlish United

On Francis' request, hot off the press is this weeks match report - i'll consider myself told off for previous delayed editions!! ;-)

What a superb performance today from everyone - you really are giving me a selection nightmare but it's certainly a nice problem to have.  The football you boys are playing now really is top drawer and a pleasure to watch.

We took control of the game straight from the off and could have been a few up in the first 10 minutes.  Eventually the first goal came and we didn't look back creating loads of chances resulting in 2 more goals before half-time.

It was the same story in the second half with Dawlish being run ragged with our brilliant passing and attacks down both wings.  There could easily have been 6 or 7 different goal scorers with Sean, Francis, Andrew, Pacey and Asher all going so close but it was Zak M (3), Matt (2) and Marcus (2) who got the goals to make the final score 7-0 - a win that puts us top the league.

Man of the Match goes to Zak Milling who was on fire today and grabbed a brilliant hat-trick which included a very well taken penalty - well done Zak!  Also well done to Ollie for keeping a clean sheet.

I've just had a call from a journalist at the regional Sunday Independent (not the national one - yet!).  They picked up on our result and wanted to know details about the game - sounds like we will be in tomorrows edition.

Look forward to seeing you Monday at training; hopefully we won't get the soaking we got last week.

Friday 14 November 2014

Central United V Dawlish

King George has passed the 4pm pitch inspection so unless there is a deluge of rain this evening tomorrow's game against Dawlish is on.  It's the usual 10.30am KO and we have an appointed referee, which is good as Joe can't make it.  If you able to get there a bit earlier than 10am to help me put up the goals, check the pitch etc it would be much appreciated!

Players resting are George, Euan and Zac B

See you tomorrow.

Saturday 8 November 2014

Match postponed

Today's match has been postponed due to waterlogged pitch.

Friday 7 November 2014

Pitch directions

The pitch for tomorrow's game is located down the road opposite the school.

Friendly on 22nd

As we have no fixture on 22nd November I have arranged a friendly with Nigel's U11's at KGV.

Thursday 6 November 2014

Xmas Party

The club have organised a Christmas Party on 12th December at St James Park.  Let me know if you want tickets!

West Hill Wasps v Central United

It's West Hill Wasps away on Saturday. They play at Kings School, EX11 1RA, can we meet there at 10am for 10.30am KO please.

Players resting this week are Francis, Sean and George.

Sunday 2 November 2014

I hope you all enjoyed yourselves yesterday.  It couldn't have been a more even game ending all square at 11-11 and then going to sudden death on penalties. I dread to think what the tension would be like if it happened in a real game!

Can those who didn't pay bring their £3 to training tomorrow night please?

Thank you.

Friday 31 October 2014

5 a-side

I've confirmed tomorrow's booking at Wonford Sports Hall, 10am to 11am.  We have 11 players so it will be £3 each.  The address is Rifford Rd, EX2 6NF.

There's no need to arrive before 10am as there is a class before us so they will be 5 minutes or so sorting out the hall for us.   This will mean we will finish a bit after 11am.

Remember to where your shin pads and bring a drink.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Monday 27 October 2014

Snack Bar

I forgot to mention the Snack Bar in my last blog and just wanted to say thank you very much to those who helped out on Saturday - over £70 of takings for the club.

Sunday 26 October 2014

Central United 3-1 Colyton Redsocks

Another great win yesterday boys against a good Colyton side.  We started the game well and deservedly went ahead and it was nice to see if come from a corner/header.   George put in a perfect ball and Marcus matched it with a powerful header into the back of the net.

Colyton came back strong equalising before half-time with a goal reminiscent of George Hurst's in the 66 World Cup final, except I think yesterday it did actually cross the line and Joe was right to award the goal.

Despite Colyton having a slight advantage playing with the weather in the second half they were unable to break through our defence, which has become very stingy this season boasting the second best record in the division.

Marcus wreaked havoc up front and in the second half and won us the game with two excellent goals to claim his second hat-trick of the season and the Man of the Match award - congratulations Marcus!

It's was good to see more crosses into the box and as you can see it creates good goal scoring opportunities.  Andrew demonstrated it perfectly yesterday by beating a player, looking up and crossing to Marcus to score.

As we don't have a game next week I have provisionally hired Wonford Sports Hall, 10am to 11am.  The cost is £37.50, which works out between £2.50 and £3 depending on how many attend. Can you confirm if your son is going to be there please so I can confirm booking - thanks.

See you at training tomorrow.

Wednesday 22 October 2014

Saturday

It's Colyton Redsocks at home on Saturday.  KO is at the slightly later time of 11pm so can you be there for 10.30am please.

It's our turn to run the snack bar but so far, apart from Anne and Joseph, i've not had any volunteers.  I'll set it all up but could really do with a couple of people to help run it and get the hot water refills from the kitchen, so please let me know if you can help out. This provides a good source of income for the club.

Friday 17 October 2014

Tomorrow

Sorry for the late post but there is nothing on tomorrow.  For those not going on the Bude trip there is still training on Monday so hopefully see you then.

Have a good weekend all and to the boys going Bude..... have a great time!

Sunday 12 October 2014

Feniton 1-2 Central United

Well done for a really hard fought win yesterday, on what was near to a full size pitch, to continue our impressive undefeated league run - what a contrast to this stage last season!

Zak Milling, who was excellent all game, put us in the lead with a speculative long range shot that turned out to be too hot for the Feniton keeper to handle.  Feniton got themselves back into the game in the second half but not for long as we retained the lead with Euan being the first to react to a lose ball in the 6 yard box to grab what turned out to be the winning goal.

A couple of positive things I would like to point out is that we have now scored a couple of goals this season by following up on spilled chances from close range, which we rarely did last season and secondly the character and team work you are showing has vastly improved which is great.

Man of the Match goes to George who really bossed the centre of midfield, as he's done every game this season with his endless running and tackling - fantastic stuff George (I could see you on a Duracell advert!).

With regard to training tomorrow night, I'm really sorry chaps but I am going to have to cancel it, as Joe is unwell (he shouldn't really have been there yesterday but didn't want to miss it) and I have to work.

Speak soon!

Wednesday 8 October 2014

Colyton game on 25th October

I know it's a couple of weeks away but just to let you know that I have moved KO back to 11am for our match on 25th October against Colyton, as I'm sure those of you going on the Bude school trip are going to be pretty exhausted and I thought you might appreciate an extra half hour in bed!

Feniton away

It's Feniton away on Saturday, KO is 10.30am so can we meet at their ground at 10am please. The address is Acland Park, Feniton, EX14 3WA.

Players resting this week are Zac B, Andrew and Pacey

Chaps - whilst it doesn't look like we have a referee this week we are likely to have one more often this season and you will have noticed they always check your boots before the game; this is to make sure you have all your studs present and none of them have sharp edges.  Can you get in the habit of checking this yourselves before match days, as I wouldn't want any of you to miss a game because of it.

See you Saturday!

Saturday 4 October 2014

Great effort lads

Drawing top of Division 1 was always going to be tough but you all did yourselves really proud today; you gave everything and 5-1 was a very harsh scoreline.  Going into the break 0-0 and having the better chances Bideford were clearly rattled and definitely knew they were in a game.  You started the second half well but it was Bideford who went ahead with a very fortuitous free kick that took a deflection leaving Ollie with no chance.

As the game went on I think there were some tired legs out there which led to us conceding a few scrappy goals in quick succession but you kept battling away and got a thoroughly deserved goal setup by Matt for Zak Milling to finish with aplomb to score the best goal of the game.

Well done to all of you for a really spirited display.  It was very encouraging to see you compete against the best team in the league, still playing some nice football and creating lots of chances.

Man of the match goes to Joseph this week for showing great improvement and putting in a really solid and committed performance at both a right and left back.

Joe will be taking training on Monday night as i'm still doing my level 1.  Enjoy it and think of me stuck in a classroom for 3 hours!!

Thursday 2 October 2014

Cup match

It's first round of the cup on Saturday against Bideford Blues at KGV.  Joe is unable to make it, so if you are able to get there a bit earlier than 10am to help me put up the goals it would be much appreciated.

I think it's going to be quite busy at KGV, so those who drive might want to use the far car park.

This week's rested players: Sean, Euan and Marcus.

Sunday 28 September 2014

Central United 1 v 1 Brixington Blues

We were by far the better team yesterday and created enough chances to win the game comfortably but unfortunately we didn't get that little bit of luck we deserved, especially as we played much better than last week when we won by 3 goals. I think that it was just one of those days!!!

We started brightly this time dominating play and going close on a few occasions but a long Brixington free kick over the top caught us out and with their first chance on goal we found ourselves a behind.  It was all one way traffic after their goal with so many near misses but the score remained 0-1 at the break.

It was a similar story in the second half until Francis blasted an excellent shot on the turn into the top corner.  At this point I thought there was only going to be one winner but unfortunately the second goal just didn't come and time ran out.

So.....unlucky lads for not getting our third win in a row but well done for earning us a valuable point against a team that were in Division 1 last season and another bonus is that we still remain undefeated this season!.

Man of the Match goes to Francis, not just for his superb goal but for being at the heart of a lot of our attacking play and for working his socks off - well done Francis!

If anyones missing a Central jacket then I have it so remember to ask for me it next time I see you.

There is no training on Monday i'm afraid, as I start my level 1 coaching course and also there's a meeting at Isca School for those going on the Bude trip in October.

Thursday 25 September 2014

Snack bar

I'm pleased to say that we don't need to man the changing rooms at all this season as the club have put money aside to cover this job but we do still have to run the snack bar a couple of times, the first date being 25th October when we are home to Colyton Redsocks.

I'm looking for a couple of volunteers to help Anne with this, so please let me know if you can help.

Many thanks.

Central United v Brixington Blues

Saturday's game is against Brixington Blues at KGV.  Please be there 10am for the usual 10.30am KO.

Players resting this week are Noah, Ted and Zac B

By the way we have an appointed referee for this game.

Sunday 21 September 2014

Sidmouth Raiders 2-5 Central United

Well done on another win that takes us joint top of the league.  We did make quite hard work of it for a while but then I did make a lot of changes that I think prevented us from settling into any sort of rhythm.  Having said that we scored more goals today than in both games put together against Sidmouth last season and it could have quite easily have been more.

Another positive is that a couple of things we have worked on in training came to fruition in the game.  Marcus scored a brilliant glancing header from a perfect corner by George (I think this is our first ever........headed goal from a corner I mean, not first perfect corner George!). I did promise a small reward to the first person to score this way, so I will hand this out on Monday - good work Marcus, I didn't expect it to happen so soon!  We also scored from an excellent ball in across the face of goal by Pacey for George to cooly slot home past the keeper; again this was good to see.

Other goals came from Marcus, George with one of his spectacular long range free-kicks, which is becoming bit of a trademark and Pacey who instinctivley hammered home a shot from outside the box after Marcus' forced a good save by their keeper.

Man of the Match this week goes to Asher for his improved defensive play and also his calm, intelligent distribution down down the left wing - well done Asher!

See you Monday chaps!

Wednesday 17 September 2014

Saturday's game

We are away to Sidmouth Raiders on Saturday but it's a slightly later KO at 11am, as they have another team playing on the pitch first.  Can we therefore meet at the below address at 10.30am.  Please let me know if your son can't make it.

Newton Poppleford Playing Fields, Back Lane, Newton Poppleford, EX10 0BX

Players resting this week are Joseph, Matt and Zak Milling.

Sunday 14 September 2014

Lympstone Rangers 0-6 Central United

Another win, lots of goals and none conceded with all 15 of you playing a good part, so well done lads.

Andrew got us off the mark with an excellent left foot strike into the the far corner of the net following some quick thinking from Asher to start the move from a short corner.  Matt and Marcus both scored 2 brilliant individual goals and were unlucky not to both grab a hat-trick.  Euan also got on the scoresheet by pouncing on a loose ball in the box and hammering it home with a powerful left foot shot.

I've put a new team photo on the blog which includes everyone this time!

http://centralunitedfc.blogspot.co.uk

Be prepared for some fitness training on Monday.  We're also going to be working on crossing and finishing.  Hope to see you there!

Thursday 11 September 2014

Exeter City Day

The club have arranged another Exeter City Day but this time they have separated the age groups - under 12's are on Tuesday 10th February (they might have improved a bit by then!) for the match against Cambridge Utd.  Tickets are £15 each which includes match ticket in Flybe stand, match day programme, pizza, drink and the boys take part in a half time penalty shoot out.

There's no need to respond now, just thought I would give you advanced notice.

Wednesday 10 September 2014

Friendly on Saturday

I have arranged a friendly against Lympstone Rangers on Saturday at their ground, 10am for 10.30am KO.  Can you let me know asap if your son can't make it please.

The address is:
Cliff Field
Burgmann's Hill
Lympstone
Exmouth
EX8 5HP

Most of you have been there before, as we played there last season, but for those who haven't you will see a big gate just off the road into a field where you can park and the pitch is across a little bridge.

I meant to take a group picture at training on Monday to update the blog but I forgot, so can someone give me a nudge on Saturday if I forget again!

Sunday 7 September 2014

Rota

There is a new page on the blog called Fixtures/Rota that shows the rest games up until end of the year.  You will see that some players miss 2 and others 3 games but this will be taken into account when I work out 2015 fixtures to make sure it's fair.

West Exe 1 - 4 Central United

Well done everyone on a great victory yesterday.  It was yet another slow start, though, seeing us go a goal behind early on but it was pleasing to see a bit of team spirit to turn the game around and run out comfortable winners in the end against a physical West Exe side.  Matt and Marcus' goals were all top drawer and were both unlucky not to get more.

West Exe beat us twice last season and narrowly missed out on promotion, which made yesterdays win all the more impressive and everyone played their part - all bar 2 players were substituted at some point in the game, which shows the strength of the squad we have now.

There were so many excellent performances but there could only really be one Man of the Match and that's Marcus for his superb hat-trick - well done Marcus!

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow at training when we will be practicing corners (defending and attacking) and scoring from crosses.  The club have kindly provided a brand new Nike football for each of you which I will be handing out.  Please make sure you bring it to training each week.

Thursday 4 September 2014

First match

We have our first match of the season on Saturday against West Exe at Barton Fields.  It's the usual 10.30 KO so can you be there for 10am please.  I've been told this season they are playing on the first pitch as you enter the gates from the Cowick Street end.  If your son is unable to make it please let me know.

Asher, Andrew and Pacey are the players being rested for this game.  I've not had time to finish the rota but will do over the weekend and will email it to you all.

Tuesday 2 September 2014

West Exe 3-4 Central United

Great performance last night chaps, some of the passing and link up play was as good as I've seen for a team of your age group - the extra midfielder definitely makes a big difference to our game.  With the new additions of Marcus (2 great goals by the way!), Ted and Noah who were all excellent, we're looking in good shape for what should be a very exciting season ahead for us if you keep playing like that!

Monday 1 September 2014

Offside

I only found out last week that we are playing offside this season hence the quick 5 minute crash course on Saturday.  Below is a link to a video that might help make the rules a bit clearer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U01-uArNpdw

We will be needing a linesman/women for each game, no experience needed! If anyone would like to help out with this please let me know.

Sunday 31 August 2014

Central United 2 - 4 Central City

I'm sure there were some tired legs yesterday afternoon after a tough workout against City.  It took some time for us to get going but we did improve as the game progressed and looked a completely different team in the last 20 minutes playing some lovely football, getting 2 goals and conceding none - well done to George for scoring a free kick that even Ronaldo would have been proud of.

It was good to play a team like City as it made Joe and I realise that the formation we have been playing up until now is not really suitable against the better teams, as it invites too much pressure on the defence through the centre of midfield.  Changing to 2 in the centre of midfield in the last 20 minute made a massive difference putting us on the front foot and resulting in much more possession.   This will be the formation we will be trying to adopt going forward.

As we have another friendly arranged for Tuesday there will be no training on Monday.  I am waiting for the West Exe Manager to return from holiday to confirm that the game is still on but unless you hear from me to the contrary please meet at Barton Fields for 6ish and we'll try and get the game under way asap.

Hope to see you then!

Payment Forms

I've had a gentle reminder from the Club Treasurer regarding Payment Forms, as she has only had 4 back so far.  We need to get this wrapped up before start of the season so that all players are eligible to play.    If you have paid by bank transfer can you still make sure you return the form to Veronica to confirm, so she can tick you off her list.

Many thanks.

New season

We are 10 days away from the start of the season so thought I would give you some information on how Joe and I plan to manage the squad this season.  We have taken the opportunity to take on 3 new players and would like to welcome Noah, Ted and Marcus to the team. This has increased our squad to 15 players, which we appreciate is more than is normally needed for 9 a-side but will be the minimum required next season when we move to 11 a-side, so felt it was best to act now to help ensure we keep the team together for future seasons.

As it's not realistic to make 6 substitutions every game, we have decided that with the exception of Ollie in goal, 3 players will be rested each game.  This will be done fairly, so that each player plays the same amount of games over the course of the season.   Before we work all this out can you let me know, by Sunday, if you know of any games your son can't make and we will do our best to incorporate these into the rest games.  Obviously, on rest days players are more than welcome to come along and be part of things but we totally understand if you take the opportunity to do something else.

This seasons fixtures can be found here, http://www.exeteryouthleague.co.uk/under12s-division2/

Congratulations to Ollie who has been made team captain for the season.  Please all show your support to Ollie in his new role - i'm sure he'll do a sterling job.

Friendly with City

Joe and I were seriously impressed with you all at training tonight - some fantastic passing football.  As mentioned earlier we have a friendly game against Central City on Saturday at KGV,  so can you be there for around 10am please.

We also have a friendly game next Tuesday against West Exe at Barton Fields, 6.30pm KO.

If your son is unable to make either of these games can you let me know please?

Just a reminder that there is training at KGV this evening, 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Thursday 21 August 2014

Saturday

I wasn't planning to do training Saturday but you all seemed really keen, so if you want a kickabout Joe and I will be at KGV, 10am to 11am.

Saturday 16 August 2014

Fun session

It was a good fun session this morning boys - I thought you all looked pretty sharp considering the summer break and all the ice-creams!  There's training again on Tuesday at KGV, 6.30pm.

Regarding the Registration Forms I handed out, I've since realised that I don't need them completing for the following players:

Francis Blewett
Zackary Burnard
George Caton-Pike
Joseph Gray
Euan Land
Andrew Lapworth
Pacey Large
Sean Laws
Zak Millings
Asher Rutherford
Matthew Williams

For those not listed can the form be handed back to me asap please so that I can add details onto the league portal before start of the season.

Please complete and return the payment form using the envelope provided addressed to the club treasurer.  This season the club are giving a £30 discount to those who have more than 1 child playing for Central, if this applies to you remember to take this into account when sending payment.

Saturday

I’ve not heard back from the Sidmouth Manager about a friendly game I was trying to arrange for Saturday, so I thought I would hold a training session at KGV instead.  If your son is able to make it then it’s 10.30am to 11.30am – hopefully see you there!

Saturday 26 July 2014

Friendlies/Training

Our first two training sessions will be held at KGV on 19th and 26th August (Tuesday's) at 6.30pm.  The following Tuesday, 2nd September, I have arranged a friendly against West Exe at Barton Fields, 6.30 KO. Can you let me know if your son is ok to play in this game please.

I'm also trying to arrange another friendly against Sidmouth and/or City shortly after I return from holiday mid August - I will keep you posted.

Germany 5 - 2 Central United (+2 Gers)

Thanks for not doing a runner on Wednesday when seeing the size of the German boys.  I was as surprised as you to be greeted by a bunch of 12 and 13 years olds, as this was not what I had arranged.  German has never my strong point!!

I was glad to see you all still wanted to play and thought you all competed really well. Borrowing two of their players helped even things up after going a couple of goals down and it if wasn't for 'Manuel Neuer' in goal the final score would have been closer than 5-2.  Well done to Pacey and Matt for getting past him.

I have to give Matt and Ollie a mention as they were outstanding all game.  Also, well done to our new signing, Noah, who put in an excellent debut performance.

Monday 14 July 2014

KO change

The KO for our game on Wednesday has been changed to 7.30pm, as the pitch is not available until then - I hope this is ok with everyone.

Saturday 12 July 2014

Central United v der Germans

For those who are playing in Wednesday's game against der Germans, KO is 7pm at Warren View Sports Ground, Halsdown Avenue, Exmouth, EX8 3EG.  If you could aim to be there at least 20 minutes before that would be great.

I have no idea of the standard of this team, being German probably very well drilled I suspect, so I have spoken with their manager and agreed that if the game becomes too one sided (and we are hammering them!!!) then we will mix up the teams, as at the end of the day this is to give both sets of players an enjoyable game of football with a bit of culture thrown in.

You might be interested to look up http://www.ferienfussball.de/ .   If you are not fluent German, some browsers will automatically ask if you would like to translate, if not, you can do a Google search for ferienfussball and select 'translate this page' from the search results page.

A few things

Hi all

Firstly, I wanted to say well done to those who played in Culm Sampford Tournament on Saturday; I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.  It was a good effort and a real shame that we didn't quite make the semi finals.  To concede in the dying seconds of extra time after such a good performance was a bit disappointing but i'm afraid that's the way it goes sometimes!  By the way, defending corners will definitely be on the agenda for pre season training!!

On the subject of training, we have been given the same slot for the coming season on Monday evenings (7pm - 8pm) at Exeter School.  I will let you know the date this starts in due course.

I know it's a bit early for a pre-season friendly but I have made provisional arrangements for us to play a match against a German boys team in Exmouth next Wednesday, 7pm KO.   They are currently staying at a European Football Camp and I didn't want to pass on the opportunity to play them as thought it would be a good experience for the boys and something they would enjoy, so long as it doesn't go to a penalty shoot out!!!  I would appreciate it if you could let me know asap, one way or the other, if your son can play so I can finalise details.

Many thanks.
Jon

Central FC AGM

Hi all

Nigel's asked me to make you all aware of the Central AGM being held on 28th May at St James Park, in the Courtney Room, at 7.30pm.  All parents/guardians are very welcome should you wish to attend.  Alternatively, if there is anything you would like me to raise on your behalf please let me know.

Thanks.

Monday 5 May 2014

Lympstone Lympets 2-1 Central United

It wasn't quite the finale I was expecting on Saturday I have to say, instead it was one of our poorest performances for some time.

Whilst I do think Lympstone may have had a couple of players from their other team and the referee did call some very strange decisions, one of them resulting in their second goal, we can't use these as excuses.   Lympstone were the better team and fully deserved their win, they showed grit, determination and the right attitude - everything that we were lacking on the day.  Hopefully, this will serve as a valuable lesson for the future in that you should never go into games thinking a win is a sure thing.

Well done to Andrew for getting our only goal of the game and to Sean who I thought was our best player.

Fortunately, the result didn't make much difference to our season so don't let it put too much of a dampener on things.  If at the beginning of the season someone said we would finish mid table I would have thought it was highly unlikely but you proved me wrong and for that you should be very proud of yourselves - well done!

For anyone who isn't already aware the following awards were given out at our end of season awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon:

Player of the Year - George
Players Player of the Year - Ollie
Most improved Player - Zac Burnard

Congratulations once again to the three of you - fully deserved!

I've thoroughly enjoyed my first season with you all and hope you have too.   Have a great summer, enjoy the World Cup, and i'll be in touch about the new season in due course.

Awards Day

Hi all, just a reminder that the Awards Day is this Saturday at Exeter City FC, 2pm.

Sunday 27 April 2014

Okehampton v Central United

I'm afraid we are going to have to forfeit our game against Okehampton this Wednesday, due to parents/child evening at Isca School.  I did try and re-arrange for another day this week but Okehampton were unable to change.

Colyton Redsocks 3-4 Central United

Wow.......what a fantastic result yesterday chaps - I would say that has to be our best win of the season.  Not just because you beat Colyton who were joint 3rd in the table but because you did it playing some great football.

It was a confident start to the game and we were unlucky not to get a couple of goals early on but instead it was Colyton who were the ones that went ahead, with their first shot on goal.  Unlike previous games when we have gone behind we stayed positive, kept our shape and played our passing game and were soon rewarded with a free kick just outside the penalty area.  George confidently stepped up and thumped home a superb strike leaving their keeper standing.  We created plenty more great opportunities and Pacey managed to, instinctively, stick one of them away before half time taking us into the break 2-1 up.

We were playing against the wind and rain in the second half but that didn't seem to affect us too much, as we were still by far the better team and looked very comfortable.  Euan put us 3-1 up scoring from close range from a impressive assist from Pacey having been on a mesmeric run past a number of defenders.  Zak Milling's got our 4th with a with a very cool and clinical finish.

It was a tense last couple of minutes when Colyton got 2 goals back.  This was my fault boys so apologies; I shouldn't have changed things around near the end, which disrupted the shape of the team, but thankfully you all dug in and held on to claim a much deserved victory.

Captains armband goes to George for his overall excellent play and a cracking goal (I said you would get one!) - well done!

Worth a mention

Zac Burnard has really settled in nicely to his defensive midfield role and produced yet another solid performance.  Pacey was also excellent in midfield again.

See you all tomorrow for our last training session of the season.

Thursday 24 April 2014

Central United 1-0 CS Leopards

Another win, another clean sheet and some excellent football played.  It was another game we really had to win to get us out of the relegation battle, so well done boys.

It was looking like it was going to be one of those days with numerous chances going begging and Pacey being very unlucky not to score with his superb volley that rattled the cross bar.   Eventually the deadlock was broken by Zac Burnard who showed great reactions to pounce on his rebounded shot and see it over the line.

We had a quiet spell at the beginning of the second half but soon got our passing game flowing again creating more great chances but unable to capitalise.  My only bit of slight criticism is that we are still taking 1 or 2 touches too many before getting our shots in so we'll keep working on this.

Overall a great performance that should have seen us win by a bigger margin.  I quote their Manager after the game "your lads gave us a 1-0 hammering".

Captains armband goes to Euan who's vision and link up play was brilliant down the left hand side and he has clearly worked really hard on the physical part of his game getting stuck into the tackles - good stuff Euan!

Worth a mention

Another flawless performance by Asher - i'm not sure what you've been eating lately but keep eating it! ;-)   Pacey put in another dogged display in midfield and Zak Milling's movement up front was excellent creating numerous chances for his team.

A tough match away at Colyton on Saturday, KO 10.30am so 10am meet please.

Address is:

Colyton Peace Memorial Playing Fields, Coly Road, Colyton, EX24 6PU

See you then!

Thursday 17 April 2014

Central United v CS Leopards

We have a home game against CS Leopards next Wednesday, 6.30pm KO.  Can you let me know if your son can't make it, otherwise 6ish meet at KGV please.

There is training on Monday as usual but appreciate some of you might be doing other things, so don't worry if you can't make it.

Have a great Easter.

Manager's comments

As Joseph said in his report you all responded brilliantly to last week's disappointing result and were well worthy of today's convincing win that could, actually, have been by a much bigger margin.

Captains armband this week goes to Asher who showed much improvement in his tackling and played some great football out from the back - well done Asher.  Other performances that stood out for me were Francis who mesmerised defenders all game with his amazing dribbling skills; an absolute pleasure to watch.  Matt Williams once again gave every ounce of energy for his team and was at the heart of numerous attacks and Pacey added much needed steal in midfield against a very physical Kentisbeare side.

Well done all - see you Monday!

Central United 4-1 Kentisbeare Colts.....Great performance!!!

Match Report by Joseph Gray

Our manager asked for a good response today and he got it; a good all round performance boys! After a sloppy game last week against Brixington we desparetly needed a win to try and keep our division 2 status alive. We struggled to get a firm grip on the game at the start; looking a bit edgy to get a tackle in, but that was soon wiped as some great break away football resulted in an excellent goal by Francis.

From there we were the better side creating opportunities, some via the shear speed of Matt Williams surging runs down the wing. Despite the dirty tackles from some of the Kentisbeare players, we continued to pile on the pressure resulting in a great goal from Matt Williams to make sure went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Playing up hill and against the wind in the second half it was going to be hard work to extend our lead but that was by sure what we done - an awesome strike from Zak Milling which gave us a real boost, not long into the second half.  Shortly after, Kentisbeare came fighting back and got a goal themselves to make it 3-1.

There on Kentisbeare put themselves into good positions, continuing to test our defence. With 10 minutes left the crowd were getting a bit edgy that we might concede another goal but with one last break near the end of the match Andrew Lapworth converted a great close range shot; the final result ended up as 4-1 to united.

Every single player showed what they are capable of, showing how much we have improved throughout the season. Now we are on 23 points, more importantly 4 above the relegation zone. Our next game is on Wednesday 23rd April against CS leopards at home which will be another vital game as they are only 1 point below us in the fight to avoid the drop. After we have got Colyton and Okehampton away.....fingers crossed. Then to round of a season of highs and lows we have lympstone away on the final day of the season ( 3rd May). COME ON UNITED!!!!!!!

Thursday 10 April 2014

Central United v Kentisbeare Colts

Saturday's game is at home to Kentisbeare Colts - KO 10.30am so please be there for 10am.  To help focus your minds, 3 teams will get relegated at the end of the season so things are getting a bit close for comfort with us being 1 of 5 teams within 3 points of each other, so i'm looking for extra special effort from all of you in this game chaps.

See you then!

Sunday 6 April 2014

Brixington 4-1 Central United

I don't think the early KOs agree with us; it was a lacklustre performance today - a far cry from Wednesday's efforts.

We did start brightly and played some nice football creating a few great chances but failed to capitalise on them.  It only looked like a matter of time before we would take the lead but then Brixington scored with their first attempt on goal and after that our heads dropped and we looked a  different team, one that was devoid of confidence.  I'm not sure why going a goal down seems to affect us so much but we do need to learn to shrug it off, continue to play our game and keep our concentration.

Only 1-0 down with the second half still to play I thought we could quite easily turn things round but our lack of desire to win the ball and track players saw us concede 3 further goals, which put the game well out of reach by the time Matthew showed great anticipation in thumping home a loose ball to end the game on a more positive note.

It's a real shame as I genuinely believe we are a better team than Brixington and had we played like we have done for last couple of games we would have won the game quite comfortably.  Never mind, it was an off day and wasn't to be so we'll pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and look to put things right in our next game.  I'll make sure I don't forget the oranges again too!!!

Captains armband goes to Zak Milling who got himself in some great positions behind their defence but, unfortunately, didn't get the service he deserved.  He was also happy to do another stint in goal for his team.

Remember training is at KGV tomorrow (7pm) and there is no money to pay.  See you there when we are going to look at our thow-ins to feet, defending/attacking corners and of course SHOOTING! ;-)

Wednesday 2 April 2014

Central Utd 0 - 0 Central City

What a fantastic team performance tonight - very impressed indeed.  You all worked your socks off  and played some nice football too.

It was a very close fought match with both teams having their spells of possession and chances but both defences stood firm and I think the draw was a fair result.  This is the first time we have gone two consecutive games without conceding a goal, which is a great achievement so well done.

It's hard to pick out one player for the captains armband but Joe and I have chosen Sean who was outstanding and played his best game of the season - congratulations Sean!

We have Brixington away on Saturday.  Their Manager has asked if we can KO at 10am as they have another game to play, so can you all be there for 9.40am please - hope this is ok.  Please let me know if your son can't make it.

Address is:
Withycombe Raleigh Common
Exmouth
EX8 5EE

Look forward to seeing you then.

Sunday 30 March 2014

Sidmouth Raiders 0-2 Central United

A marked improvement on last week boys and a clean sheet too so well done.

I thought we started the game well and played some nice football but took a while to make the breakthrough, which eventually came via an excellent long range shot from Zak Burnard that proved too hot for their keeper to handle.  It could have easily been 3 or 4 by half-time had we put our chances away.  Matt put in some dangerous corners and was unlucky not to score with one that hit the crossbar.

Whilst still in control of the game our passing wasn't quite as fluent in the second half but it was great to see the effort from everyone right up until the final whistle, as we have tended to flag towards the end of games recently.  Matt caused Sidmouth constant problems with his surging runs and our second came from same when he added a great finish from a wide left position.  For this and his sheer work rate Matt gets the captain's armband for the next game.

Worth a mention

Andrew did a sterling job at left back and played some excellent passes down the wing.  Zak Burnard had a solid game in his defensive midfield role.  Francis once again demonstrated his great dribbling skills.

Just a reminder that we have Central City on Wednesday, KO 6.15pm, so can you try and be there for 5.45pm.  Please let me know if your son can't make it.

Thursday 27 March 2014

Change of plan for Saturday

The Sidmouth Manager forgot that we were meant to be playing at their ground and can only do a 11.30am KO, so I have arranged for the game to be played at KGV instead for a 10.30 KO - 10am meet please.

Tuesday 25 March 2014

Sidmouth Raiders v Central United

Saturday's game is against Sidmouth Raiders away at Sidbury Playing Fields, EX10 9QX.  Please ignore the fixture list which shows us being home as the games were reversed.  I look forward to seeing you there, raring to go (boy's that is! ;-), around 10ish for the usual 10.30am KO.

Sunday 23 March 2014

Match Fees

Can those who have paid their match fees by bank transfer confirm this by emailing or texting me please, as I need to ensure all monies are in by Friday.

Many thanks.

West Exe Youth 3-1 Central United

I have to say West Exe deserved their win yesterday but this was more down to us being below par than them being a better team.  I thought we started the game brightly and looked quite solid for most of the first half but did have to call upon Ollie for some superb goalkeeping!

Being 0-0 at the break I thought we had every chance of going on to win the game but we seemed to lose our way and didn't create nowhere near enough chances.  West Exe eventually went ahead after a shot that Ollie brilliantly saved rebounded to the feet of their striker who blasted it in to the net.  Our heads did drop a bit after the goal, so to try and give us some fresh impetus I put Ollie up front who did manage to get on the scoresheet with a lovely finish over the keeper's head but unfortunately it was too late having conceded 2 further goals in quick succession shortly before.

Captains armband goes to Euan for showing more commitment in his tackles and for trying to get our passing game going - well done Euan!

Worth a mention

Ollie demonstrated that he is becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the league.  Thank you to Zak Milling for bravely stepping up and doing a stint in goal for his team and providing a safe pair of hands with some excellent kicking - certainly not at fault for the 2 goals by the way.  Joseph continued his good form and again showed his versatility by playing in both fullback positions.

To sum it up

A frustrating day as we could have done better but West Exe are 5th in the table and last time we played them they won comfortably putting 9 past us so in that respect today's result could be seen as not so bad.  Anyway, i'm confident we can bounce back next week against Sidmouth.

Thursday 20 March 2014

West Exe v Central United

Saturday's game is away to West Exe (Barton Fields, St Thomas).  Kick off is the usual time so can you be there around 10ish.   Please let me know if your son can't make it.

See you then!

Saturday 15 March 2014

Central Utd 0-4 Bideford Blues

You all put up a good fight today against table toppers Bideford Blues and I couldn't have asked for much more.  It was a superb effort and you should be proud that you gave them such a competitive game - I think they were a tad concerned at the 0-0 half-time scoreline.

Their Manager paid you high praise at the end of the game and said how impressed he was at how much you have improved since the 14-0 defeat to them earlier in the season.

As expected Bideford were quick out of the traps and were looking to shoot at any opportunity.  Ollie made some excellent saves and some good closing down forced other shots to go wayward.  We grew more confident as the game went on and started to create chances of our own, a particularly good one created from a great Zak Milling cross that we just couldn't get across the line.

The start of the second half was much the same, lots of Bideford pressure but we stood firm until conceding a pretty soft goal from close range.  Seemingly stunned by this we let in an almost identical goal straight after putting us 2-0 down, which was so disappointing after how well we defended up until this point.

Credit to you all, despite being very tired, you kept going and whilst Bideford did get 2 more before the end we had good spells of possession and made opportunities to score.

Joseph gets the captains armband for his solid performance both at right and left back and a great goal line clearance in the first half.

Worth a mention

George and Zak Burnard formed a good partnership in the centre of defence and made some excellent strong tackles.  Asher and Sean showed improvement in their defending too.

This game goes to show that you have nothing to fear playing any team.  Well done boys and see you Monday at training for some more shooting - think we need to practice our kick offs too by the way! ;-)

Thursday 13 March 2014

Central Utd v Bideford Blues

We are at home to Bideford Blues on Saturday. KO is 10.30am so can you be there 10ish please.

Tuesday 11 March 2014

Footballs

Parents

The football your son brought home last night is to bring along to training each week (not match days - they'll get lost!).  Not only does it give us more options for drills, like shooting, but saves me lugging a dozen footballs across the field and clogging up my garden shed!!  Can you remind your son to bring the ball each week please - they are initialed so they know which one is theirs.

Boys

Please feel free to use the balls to practice as much as you like.  For a bit of fun, how about this week you practice your kick ups and at the start of training next Monday we'll see who's managed the most.  There can be no fibbing, though, as the player/s who claims to have done the most will have 2 attempts to show the team he can do the claimed amount.  If it's a dead heat, it goes to sudden death - winner gets a bar of chocolate, so make the most of the lighter evenings and get practicing!

Sunday 9 March 2014

One of those days!

I don't think getting out of bed early agreed with us yesterday and the extra long grass certainly didn't suit our passing game but no excuses we didn't play well enough to win the game, although 3-1 definitely flattered Dynamoes.  We had a lot of possession and were worthy of a draw I think, which would have been the fair result.

I can't remember a shot on goal or a cross into the box in the first 15 minutes, as we kept trying to walk the ball in contrasted with Dynamoes who looked dangerous every time they attacked and soon took the lead with one of their efforts.  Things did improve a bit and we did go close with a few chances but not close enough to equalise - 1-0 half-time.

We had even more possession in the second half and created chances but again struggled to find the back of the net.  Another threatening attack saw Dynamoes go 2-0 up and then shortly after it was 3-0 with a really lucky (not for us!) goal that took a cruel deflection off our defence and into the net.

At least we got a consolation goal and what a goal it was from George who showed great power and technique to rifle a shot home from way outside the penalty area.  George gets the captains armband for next match, not just for his superb goal but also his excellent all round performance, which he consistently produces game after game - well done!

Worth a mention

Francis showed off his amazing ball control and dribbling again and was at the heart of most of our attacks.

To sum up, we beat Dynamoes earlier in the season and were more than capable of doing it again yesterday but our lack of crosses into the penalty area and shyness in front of goal really cost us dear.

This is an area we will be looking at in training tomorrow but in the meantime, grab a football and get out in the lovely sunshine to practice those shots - preferably not against the back of the house, though, as I don't want a load of bills for broken windows!  ;-)  See you tomorrow chaps.

Thursday 6 March 2014

CW Dynamoes v Central Utd

Saturday's match is away against CW Dynamoes.  KO is at the earlier time of 9.30am so can you be there around 9ish please.

Address is:
100 Club, Wear Barton Road, Countess Wear, Exeter, EX2 7EH

Turn off Topsham Rd, opposite Exeter Golf & Country Club, into Glass House Lane.  Continue on past the row of shops then it's the next left turn.

Please let me know if your son can't make it.

Sunday 2 March 2014

Central United 5-1 Lympstone Lympets

A good result yesterday despite being our football being a bit below par compared to recent games.  The win takes us up to a respectable 7th place, which is an excellent achievement considering we were rooted to the bottom not so long ago.

It was a sloppy start to the game by us yesterday and it took some time before the deadlock was broken by a Matthew Williams goal.  Matthew got on the scoresheet again shortly after with a long range effort making it 2-0 and Andrew made sure he was in the right place at the right time to tap in our third before half-time.

Still a little scrappy but we did show some improvement in the second half having most of the possession and creating a lot more chances but struggling to find the back of the net, which looked like we might be made to pay for when Lympstone got one back.  However, Zak Milling displayed good technique when scoring with an excellent volley and Francis got on the scoresheet again with a close range shot securing all 3 points.

Captain's armband for the next game goes to Pacey for another great combative performance in midfield - well done Pacey!

Worth a mention

George put in yet another solid display in defence.

It's another early kick off next week away at CW Dynamoes.  This time 9.30am as they have other games to be played.  Please let me know if your son can't make it.

See you at training tomorrow!

Friday 28 February 2014

Central United v Lympstone Lympets

Due to some of the pitches being out of action tomorrow both us and City have to use the intermediate pitch, so we are are going to be kicking off at 10am and City will play their game straight after.  Please be at KGV for 9.40am.

See you tomorrow.

Race Night

Saturday 1st March at the Centre Sport, St James Park

Hopefully you've all had a flyer about Race Night on Saturday.  If you would like to attend this event please let me know by Thursday as Nigel needs to know numbers.

Thanks.

Sunday 23 February 2014

Central United 2 v 2 Tiverton Youth

A close fought match yesterday boys but we were really unlucky not to get all 3 points having been 2-0 up and seemingly in full control of the game.

I thought the lack of recent matches showed in the first 15 minutes as we looked a bit ragged and disorganised but we certainly found our rhythm in the last 15 of the half when we played some lovely football and fully deserved to go ahead just before half time from a superb solo effort by Matthew Williams who slotted home from an acute angle.

Shortly into the second half Zak Milling did well to guide Francis' shot out of the keepers path and into the net putting us 2-0 up.  At this point we seem to think the game was won but Tiverton had other ideas and to their credit they didn't give up.  Both of their goals came from corners but could have been avoided if we set up correctly (match rustiness again i'd say!), as per the hand out I gave you before Christmas so we will go over this on Monday but if you could refer back to it before then that would be good.

I know you were all disappointed not to get the win but that shows how far you've come as at the start of the season you would have been really pleased with the result.  Our last 5 matches read, won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 which is good form so keep it up.

Francis wins the captains armband for the next game for being at the heart of most of our attacks, creating our second goal and for showing great skill and composure on the ball which was a pleasure to watch.

Worth a mention

Pacey set a great example working tirelessly in midfield with some great tackling and penetrating runs at the Tiverton defence - big well done!  Joseph and Asher showed much improvement in their distribution down the right wing.

See you tomorrow!

PS.  Thanks parents for taking down the goals and putting them away - it's a big help.

Match fees

The cost of match fees for the second half of the season is £45.  It would be much appreciated if I could have a cheque made payable to Central Football Club within the next week so I can send them all off in one go to the treasurer.  Alternatively, if you prefer, you can pay direct to Central bank account in which case please add reference containing team, age and surname e.g, UTD11GRAY.  If you need the account details please let me know.

Many thanks.

Derby game

Our game against City has been re-arranged for the 2nd April (Wednesday) 6.15 KO.  I hope this is ok with everyone.

Exeter City Day

For those who attended the Exeter City Day yesterday, I hope you all had a good time.  It's a shame you didn't see a City win but at least you got to cheer a goal........eventually! The first City goal I have seen in the last 5 matches i've been to, so I was glad to buck that trend!!

Congratulations to Joseph in picking up a medal for winning the penalty competition in his age group.

Exeter City Day

Due to the Exeter City Day next Saturday there is no match.  It's not too late if you would like your son to attend the day, just let me know.   Click link below to see flyer.

Re-arranged fixtures

I'm trying to find suitable dates to play our postponed matches but have run out of Saturday's, so it's looking like we will have to play a couple midweek.  Can you let me know your son's availability for Wednesday's in April please?  It would be 6.30pm KO.

Thanks.

Pink Fluffy Unicorns

It was great to have a full turn out at Wonford yesterday and see some great football played; I hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Congratulations to the Pink Fluffy Unicorns for winning - it must have been the scary name that did it!

Derby off!

I've just been told that all pitches at KGV are out of action for tomorrow, so i'm afraid our derby game is a no go!

As this was half expected, Mark and I decided to provisionally book Wonford Sports Hall for another mini 5-aside tournament.   The hall is only available between 10am to 11:30am, so the cost should be a little less than last time (no more than £2.50 if we get a good turn out). Can you let me know if this is ok with you all please?

Hopefully see you tomorrow!

Thursday 30 January 2014

Derby Day

It's our local derby game on Saturday so can we meet at KGV for 10am please. As usual, please let me know if your son cannot make the game.

The pitch is currently looking ok to play but this could change due to the heavy rain forecasted for tomorrow, so the game is on unless you hear from me to the contrary.

Tiverton Youth 2 - 3 Central United

What a performance you put in today boys, I cannot praise you enough - you were all superb!  The win was all the more impressive in the absence of Ollie and having such a biased referee.  A huge thank you to Sean for helping the team out by going in goal and doing a sterling job - you could do nothing about both their goals by the way.

It was a tight first half but felt we were the better team and deserved to go into half-time at least 1 or 2 up with Andrew and Francis going desperately close; it was looking like it was going to be one of those days.

That theme continued into the second half when they scored with their first clear cut chance putting us 1-0 down but we responded straight from the kick off with a brilliant team goal converted by Pacey.  Despite some more great football we could not get ourselves in front and 1-1 was looking like the most likely outcome, until Matt made one of his surging runs down the right wing and scored an amazing long range shot from an acute angle.

With over 30 mins of the 2nd half played the final whistle just didn't come with the referee clearly adding on time to give Tiverton a chance to equalise but this backfired as Euan scored a close range shot to put us 3-1 up.  Surely the referee was going to end the game now but no…. the game continued and Tiverton got one back.  Surely the whistle would blow at kick off, as we are now at least 5 minutes over time, wrong……. play continued on and there were some nervy moments until eventually the ref finally admitted defeat.

There were so many stand out performances it's very hard to pick one person out but Joe and I have decided to award the captains armband to Andrew for his best game in a Central shirt and showing great attitude - good stuff Andrew!

Look forward to seeing you all on Monday at training.  Please note that lower Barrack Rd will be closed.

By the way, that's 3 wins out of last 4 games now chaps which shoots us a few places up the table - now that's progress!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
