Cullompton 3-2 Central United

Positives: Good 2nd half response to fight back but gave ourselves too much to do

Goalscorers: Zac B, Matt

Areas to focus on: Decision making in final 3rd, attacking the ball, concentration and anticipating balls over the top, finishing

Man of the match: George - another fully committed performance

Worth a mention:  Zak B - worked really hard, scored a goal and once again showed what a versatile player he is by switching to defence in the second half to tighten things up.  Pacey - really got stuck in and was a much needed physical presence.  Luke - improved performance making some excellent tackles

Manager's comments: What an extremely frustrating game and one we should have really won comfortably as Cullompton were not a particularly good team, although they were quite physical, but credit to them they made the most of their few chances in the first half and somehow found themselves 3-0 up.  We, on the other hand, floundered several great opportunities and also missed a penalty but the latter was due to a terrific save by their keeper.

We were much tighter at the back in the second half and had most of the play but found the sheer numbers behind the ball difficult to breakdown.

We are going through a bit of a rough patch but we've been there before and turned it around and I expect us to do the same this time.  This is our first season in division 1 and it has been a steep learning curve but we still remain in 4th spot, which is really positive and from what i've seen so far not an unrealistic end goal (or higher!) if we learn from our mistakes.

Central United 3-3 West Exe Youth

Positives: Big improvement on last week's performance, played some nice passing football

Goalscorers: Matt (hat-trick)

Areas to focus on: Throw-ins, closing down, man marking

Man of the match: Matt Williams - clinical in front of goal and bagged another hat-trick

Manager's comments: A draw that felt more like a defeat having had a converted penalty struck off, that would have made it 4-2, without being retaken (rules are that an infringement by the defending or attacking team results in the penalty being retaken) and then West Exe getting the equalizer in (extended) time added on!  Unfortunately I couldn't find a league referee that was free and therefore had to use West Exe's but we can't blame it all on that as, ultimately, it was a lack of a strong challenge for their two goals before half time that cost us.

Sidmouth Warriors 2-2 Central United

Positives: 2 fantastic goals, came away with a point

Goalscorers: Matt & Marcus

Areas to focus on: Attacking the ball, competing the 50/50 challenges, aggression in the tackle, pass and move.

Manager's comments: What a contrast to last week! Our best performance followed by our worst yesterday which was lacking in most areas - we simply didn't turn up.  There is no doubt we have the ability and from what i've seen so far this season we are more than a match for most teams in that department but, for not wanting to sound like a broken record, commitment and attitude, counts massively in football as yesterday demonstrated.  Sidmouth, technically, were not particularly good but they were up for it and simply wanted it more than us.

Anyway, despite playing so poorly we still managed to come away with a point and remain in 3rd spot but to stay there we really need to sort out our consistency, starting next week against West Exe where I will be looking for a big improvement from everyone!

Xmas Get Together

Hi all

I've been thinking of something  we could do for a Christmas get together and thought you all might like this as looks good fun and ties in a bit of practice at the same time!!  They have a clubhouse so maybe we could pop in there for a drink/snack afterwards?

http://www.ukfootgolf.com/padbrook-park/4588479182

Cost for 18 holes is £6 - Adults £11

We have a free date on the 19th December so thought that would be an ideal day to do it.  Please let me know if you are interested as will need to book.

Central United 3-4 Bideford

Positives: Excellent performance, new formation worked well giving us better shape, showed determination and character that was lacking in our previous game

Areas to focus on: Defending corners where we looked vulnerable

Man of the match: Ollie - showed once again what a top keeper he is pulling off some tremendous saves

Worth a mention: Great team effort!

Final word: Despite the defeat I would say yesterday was probably our best performance of the season and we fully deserved to get something out of the game.  Their number 3, who scored all of their goals, was a quality player and proved to be the difference in the end.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm.
