Training on Monday

Hi all

Slight change of plan, training on Monday is at KGV, 6pm to 7.15pm.

I know it's bank holiday but thought you all might want to get out and play some football but I completely understand if you have other things on; there's on need to let me know as I will be there with Joseph anyway.

Another re-arranged game

Hi all

Unfortunately, we do not have enough players available to raise a team for tomorrow and Cullompton have the same issue for the following Saturday, so we are trying to arrange the game to be played on Monday 2nd May, 6.30pm.  Unless I hear from you I will assume this is ok.

Due to the lack of numbers there will be no training tomorrow, so will see you on Monday which will be our last session at Exeter School, as with the lighter evenings we will be able to train at KGV but it will be at slightly earlier time of 6.30pm.

As we have another dry spell of matches I thought it would be a good idea to have a game amongst ourselves at Wonford Sports hall next Saturday (2nd April), so have booked it 10am to 11am.

Can everyone make sure you have read my last post with dates of the remaining games please and ensure they are in your calendars, as they cannot be moved and therefore do not want to forfeit any points through not having enough players.  I'm sorry for all the changes but it's been a real headache sorting out all the matches called off due to the weather and cup weeks and really frustrating that we have not been able to utilise our free weeks to get them played.  I still have 2 more games to find dates for which I will advise shortly.

Have a nice Easter and enjoy the sunshine.........whilst it lasts!!

Fixtures for remainder of the season

Saturday 26th March - Cullompton (home)

Saturday 2nd April - no fixture (we were meant to be playing Colyton but their whole team are going away that weekend, so re-arranged for 23rd April).

Saturday 9th April - St Martins (home)

Monday 11th April 6.30pm KO - re-arranged game against Twyford Spartans (away)

Saturday 16th April - no fixture

Tuesday 19th April 6.30pm KO - re-arranged game against Copplestone (away)

Saturday 23rd April - Colyton Redsocks (away)

Wednesday 27th April 6.20pm KO - West Exe (away)

Dates to be confirmed for games against Central City and Bideford Blues.

Positives:  Comprehensive win, some excellent goals, much improved passing & looked solid again in defence
Areas to focus on:  No grumbles this week!!

Goalscorer's: Matt 2, Marcus 1, Zac B 1, Zak WD 1, Pacey 1

Man of the match: Matt - scored 2 and was only a post away from making it a hat-trick

Worth a mention:  Zak Milling - made an immediate impact when brought on delivering some quality crosses into the box, Francis - superb ball control, dribbling and link up play

Manager's comments: We looked much more like usual selves yesterday and as a result won the match comfortably scoring 6 goals (could have been at least a few more!), which is our best goal tally so far this season.  Having created so few chances in our last game, it was good to see a vast improvement in this area and goals coming from 5 different players.

Well done chaps and see you tomorrow at training.

Training

Hi all

A really positive session yesterday in the sunshine and good to see some sharpness coming back.

Luke is keen to hold training tomorrow night and Andrew Blewett has kindly offered to be there so it will go ahead as normal.  As discussed yesterday you must give Luke your full co-operation for the entire session.

Saturday

Hi all

We don't have a fixture on Saturday and i've been unable to re-arrange one of our postponed games, so we will be training at KGV instead 9.30am to 11am.  I did try to book a sports hall for some 5 a-side but unfortunately none of them were free in the morning.

I thought we would have a longer session on Saturday as I'm away on Monday so there will be no training i'm afraid - sorry!

Our game on the 19th March is against Okehampton (home) and not West Exe (away) as on the website as they have a cup game.  The West Exe game will now be played on Wednesday 27th April, 6.30pm KO.

Hope to see you Saturday!

Sunday 6 March 2016

Central United 0-1 Sidmouth Warriors

Positives: Work defending corners in training paid off as looked much more confident and defended them well.

Areas to focus on:  Getting more shots on goal to test the keeper, general sharpness (particularly passing), being more vocal

Man of the match: Luke - has become Mr Consistent and put in another solid performance

Worth a mention:  Pacey - was our main physical presence, Ted - did not deserve the bad luck with the goal as played so well for the whole match keeping things tight at the back.

Manager's comments: Following last weeks' performance I was expecting a more positive start to the game but it was Sidmouth who were well on top for the first 15 minutes but some good defending kept them out.  We did come back into the game and Francis was desperately unlucky hitting the cross bar but I was happy to go into half-time honours even having been below par and playing into the wind.

The second half saw us getting more possession but there was still nothing between both sides and a draw was looking like the obvious outcome, which I thought would have been a fair result, but a cruel own goal gave Sidmouth a narrow victory.

I said before the game that Sidmouth are a much improved side and coming off the back of beating Bideford confidence was high.  Whilst they are not a big threat up front (although put 5 past Bideford!), they work really well as team and are hard to breakdown getting numbers behind the ball but on the rare occasions we played our passing football we did get some success but this it was too far and few between, so we will be concentrating on this in training tomorrow.

To finish on a positive note, despite the soft goals we tend to give away only Bideford (who have played a few less games than us) have conceded less goals than us which is great as new comers to division 1; we now just need to score a few more by getting in more shots on goal to avoid narrowly missing out on so many points.

See you tomorrow chaps!
