Saturdays game

Saturday's game is against West Exe Youth at home so please be at KG for 10am.  Joe and I will be there early to put the goals up but would appreciate help fixing the nets whilst we do warm ups etc with the boys - thanks.

We have an official referee for this game who was allocated to the under 12's game but is no longer required.

Central United 6 v 1 Central AC U10s (friendly)

It was a really good workout yesterday against Central AC, although once again, we took a while to get going (Grrrrrr!!!) and as a result conceded an early goal.  However, we soon responded with an equaliser scored by Euan Land, who also displayed some very silky skills down the left wing.  Zak Milling scored our second with a good strike, taking us into half time 2-1 to the good.

The half time pep talk seem to have an effect, as in the second half it was pretty much one way traffic.  There was some great passing and more shots on goal, 4 of which ended up in the back of the net; scored by Ollie Banwell (who just can't stop scoring!), new signing Pacey Large x2 (looks like there could be plenty more from where they came from!) and another from Zak Milling (our star striker!).

This weeks 'worth a mention'

Andrew Lapworth's stunning long range strike that hit the crossbar, Zak Bernard and Francis Blewett's excellent wide play and much improved performances from Ty Pardew and Mattie Horwell and the usual solid display from George Caton-Pike at the back.

Well done guys!  See you tomorrow.

Something that might be of interest?

Hi Junior Football Clubs.

Would your team enjoy a footy afternoon with Exeter City FC?

Would your players, their brothers and sisters, and yourself as mum or dad like to take part in the Exeter City FC Charity Santa Dash on Saturday 30thNovember?

It is a fun afternoon taking part in the one mile Santa Dash from Exeter High Street at 1.15pm then watching Exeter City play Bury at 3pm.
You can also raise money for the charity of your choice, perhaps the Adam Stansfield Foundation, Devon Air Ambulance or whatever charity is closest to your heart.

Under 18’s receive a Santa Suit and a ticket for the Exeter City v Bury game for just £5. Adults get the same for £17, Season ticket holders are £5
This price ‘should’ include a ticket on the standing Big Bank area, but for Junior football clubs I am happy to block off seats in one of the two grandstands as a ‘free’ upgrade.

To book your place contact david.evans@exetercityfc.co.uk, call 07827 871723 or pop in to the Exeter City FC Club Reception.

Merry Christmas.

David

14th December

It's our turn to do the snack bar and man the changing rooms on 14th December so can I have some volunteers please? Anne, my wife, and Helen, Sean Law's mum, have agreed to help with the snack bar but can we have another helper please? (I will bring along the urns filled with hot water and Sean's dad has agreed to help with the refills).

With regard to the changing rooms, they need to be manned from 1.30pm to 4.30pm during which time internal doors to individual changing rooms will need unlocking and locking back up again as and when required.  The shifts that need covering are:

1.30pm-2.15pm
2.15pm-3pm
3pm-3.45pm
3.45pm-4.30pm

By the way, this is not a job for females!

I need to go to a play my daughter's in so I can't do a shift myself but I will go back later on and do all the clearing up that is required, so all the last person has to do is lock up.

The club employ a company to do this work on a Sunday at a substantial cost but, unfortunately, are not currently in a financial position to do the same for Saturday's, so do need to rely on volunteers from each team a few times a season.

Many thanks.

Friendly

Instead of training on Saturday we are going to be playing a friendly against one of Nigel's teams, as they don't have a fixture either.  Can you let me know if your son can't make it, otherwise please be at KG for 10am - thanks!

New person on Monday

Hi everyone, my brother is going to be helping me and Jon out for the next few months for the volunteering section of his DofE. Be nice to him, do what he says and listen to any advice he gives you - defenders especially, he's a very good centre back so hopefully should be able to teach you a couple of things. See you on Monday!

Today's game

Thank you boys for making the really long trip to Bideford today.

It's no fun getting beat like that but Bideford are an excellent team with a squad of 18 strong players, which is why they were able to make substitutions every few minutes. Unfortunately we, on the other hand, were missing a few players and didn't have a single outfield sub which made it harder for us to keep the score at a more respectable level.  This was always going to the toughest fixture of the season so please don't be too upset about it.  To put it into context, the Bideford Manager said after the game that they beat a Division 1 team in the cup last week 9-0 and that it could have easily have been 20-0.  This shows the sort of standard they are at and demonstrates that they have clearly been placed in the wrong division.  However, its all experience for us to draw on for the future and looking on the bright side, we don't have to play them away again :-)

Captains armband for next game goes to Sean Laws for showing great improvement to his game - well done Sean.

I will not be at training on Monday as have to go in hospital for an operation but Joe will be there who is going to take you through some set pieces with you so please make sure you listen to him.

There is no fixture next Saturday but I would like to do some training instead so will blog details about this in the week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Under 11s Social Event

The parents for City have suggested a Christmas social event for both teams as per email below.  Please let me know if you would like to go so I can give numbers.

Following a brief chat with parents at training last night, the overall feeling was that we would very much like to organise a joint City / Utd Xmas Social so I've made a provisional booking for the Long Room at The Waterfront for Saturday 14th December at 12.30pm (we are both at home that day I think). They can accommodate more people than Pizza Hut who said they'd struggle to take a booking of 40 on a Saturday!

They have suggested the Pizza Party Buffet (see here http://www.waterfrontexeter.co.uk/buffet-options) which is £9.95 per adult (excluding drinks and dessert) and would be £6.95 for kids (excluding drinks and dessert). This would seem the easiest option as it means we don't have to take individual orders and can have the food ready for when we arrive.

In order to make this a firm booking, we'd need to pay a £5 per head deposit by the end of November (they'd like it by 24th November but can give us an extra week), plus final numbers and confirmed menu choice by start December.

Saturday's game

It's Bideford Blues away on Saturday, KO is the usual 10.30am.  If you could try and get there at least 20 minutes before that would be good.  Please let me know if your son cannot make it.

The address is Sandymere Centre, Bideford, EX39 1XX and here are the directions given by their manager:

If you head down the A361 towards Barnstaple then join the A39 to bideford at the roundabout after the Bideford bridge turn right heading towards Northam and drive following the road to Northam burrows we are located on the left,

Look forward to seeing you there.

By the way, their Manager said that they will be doing sausage and chips for all the boys after the game.

Sunday 10 November 2013

Central United 2-7 St Martins

A tough game as expected yesterday and whilst the best team won on the day but I think the scoreline flattered them.  I thought we made a decent start to game and gave as good as we got but unfortunately  conceded 3 scrappy goals taking us into the break 3-0 down. Less than a minute after kick off Zak Milling scored after making an excellent run and another comeback looked on the cards, but once they got their forth their confidence grew and they started passing really well showing why they are a division 1 side.  Ollie continued his goal scoring run with a late consolation goal as well as making an amazing acrobatic save earlier on in the game earning him the captains armband for the next game.

The good news is that being knocked out in the first round means we automatically go into the Under 11's Plate Competition.  I don't know much about it yet but think it's a day tournament and have heard that it's normally good fun - I will let you know details nearer the time.

I hope you all like your new jackets which were also paid for by the sponsorship money I got from my work - all spent now!

Look forward to seeing you at training tomorrow.

Cup Match

We have a cup match against St Martins on Saturday at King George, please be there for 10am. Joe and I will get there early to put the goals up but help with the nets like last week would be much appreciated.  St Martins are in division 1 so it will be a tough game but no reason why we shouldn't do well again if everyone does their best.  All of the pitches are being used so it's going to be busy and therefore the club have asked if you could use the car park at the rear.

Central United 4 - 3 CW Dynamoes

Well……the new shirts seemed to do the trick today.  A big well done boys to all of you for a great performance and showing real grit and determination to come back from being 2-0 down - the win was thoroughly deserved.

Conceding 2 goals in quick succession early on gave us plenty to do but you kept plugging away.  Zak Milling's had a good attempt saved at the near post but then went on to score a superb long range free kick that got us back into the game just before half time.  With the wind behind us in the second half we dominated the game scoring 3 goals, 2 coming from Matthew Williams and the other from Ollie Banwell in his cameo striker role.

It was all hands to the pump for the last 5 minutes following Dynamoes' third goal from a free kick but our new look defence, with Joseph Gray in the middle and Zak Bernard on the left, stood strong.

Man of the match
Matthew Williams wins the captains armband for the next game for his outstanding all round display - well done Matt.

New shirts

To prolong the life of the new shirts as much as possible can you note the following advice given by the printer's please?
  • wash inside out
  • wash at 40 degrees or below
  • do not tumble dry
  • do not iron
Basically, just leave it in the kit bag until next game and you can't go far wrong!!!
