Saturday

Hi

I hope you all had a nice Christmas.  I'm afraid there will be no Footgolf again this Saturday so I will now arrange this at the end of the season.

For those who want a kick about, I will be at KGV 10am - 11am on Saturday.  There's no need to let me know; if i see you there then great, if not training on Monday as normal.

Our next Match is on 9th January, away to Twyford Spartans.

Hi all

Footgolf is booked for Saturday at 2pm so can we meet at 1.30pm please.  Address is Padbrook Park, Cullompton, EX15 1RU.

I could do with firming up numbers as I didn't hear back from quite a few, so please email or text me to confirm, either way, if your son is able to attend.  Parents are welcome to join in but I could do with knowing beforehand so please also confirm this in your response.

St Martins 1-0 Central United

Positives: Dominated the game, looked really solid at the back, played fantastic football and competed really well

Areas to focus on: Taking our chances - the only thing missing but admit lady luck was not on our side yesterday!

Man of the match: George - quite simply, superb!

Worth a mention:  Zac B and Ted looked a great centre back pairing, Pacey - another physical performance in midfield, Zak WD - good link up play, created chances and unlucky not to get on the score sheet.

Manager's comments: Mixed emotions as so pleased with how you all played, we are really pulling together as a team now and playing teams off the park with our football, but really disappointed not to win the game having been the better team - I think we surprised St Martins yesterday; their Manager was full of praise at the end and admitted we didn't deserve to lose.

So......it looks like we will end the year in 4th or 5th place but with no exaggeration a bit more run of the green it could easily have been 2nd, which all in all is a really promising first half to the season as newbies to division 1.  I think we have all, including myself and Luke, learnt a lot and after much tinkering and with the improved team spirit we are in really good shape for the second half, so bring it on!!!

Training tomorrow night as usual at 7pm.

PS. Footgolf details to follow later!

Sunday 6 December 2015

Central 4-0 Colyton Redsocks

Positives: Played some excellent football, clean sheet and much needed win

Goalscorer's: Francis 2, Marcus, Zak WD

Areas to focus on: Finishing and killer instinct in the box - it really should have been double figures

Man of the match: Zac Burnard - stepped into the centre back role last minute but looked liked he'd played there all season with a superb performance.

Worth a mention:  Zak M - had his marker tied up in knots and put in some great deliveries, Francis - good link up play and created chance after chance scoring 2, George - tenacious as ever in midfield, Ollie - displayed much more confidence coming off his line to clear loose balls

Manager's comments: After a run of disappointing results yesterday was a must win game and it never looked in doubt, as we were by far the superior team and completely dominated the game to get the job done despite the very squally conditions - well done chaps!

Training tomorrow night as usual at 7pm.

Sunday 29 November 2015

Cullompton 3-2 Central United

Positives: Good 2nd half response to fight back but gave ourselves too much to do

Goalscorers: Zac B, Matt

Areas to focus on: Decision making in final 3rd, attacking the ball, concentration and anticipating balls over the top, finishing

Man of the match: George - another fully committed performance

Worth a mention:  Zak B - worked really hard, scored a goal and once again showed what a versatile player he is by switching to defence in the second half to tighten things up.  Pacey - really got stuck in and was a much needed physical presence.  Luke - improved performance making some excellent tackles

Manager's comments: What an extremely frustrating game and one we should have really won comfortably as Cullompton were not a particularly good team, although they were quite physical, but credit to them they made the most of their few chances in the first half and somehow found themselves 3-0 up.  We, on the other hand, floundered several great opportunities and also missed a penalty but the latter was due to a terrific save by their keeper.

We were much tighter at the back in the second half and had most of the play but found the sheer numbers behind the ball difficult to breakdown.

We are going through a bit of a rough patch but we've been there before and turned it around and I expect us to do the same this time.  This is our first season in division 1 and it has been a steep learning curve but we still remain in 4th spot, which is really positive and from what i've seen so far not an unrealistic end goal (or higher!) if we learn from our mistakes.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm

Sunday 22 November 2015

Central United 3-3 West Exe Youth

Positives: Big improvement on last week's performance, played some nice passing football

Goalscorers: Matt (hat-trick)

Areas to focus on: Throw-ins, closing down, man marking

Man of the match: Matt Williams - clinical in front of goal and bagged another hat-trick

Manager's comments: A draw that felt more like a defeat having had a converted penalty struck off, that would have made it 4-2, without being retaken (rules are that an infringement by the defending or attacking team results in the penalty being retaken) and then West Exe getting the equalizer in (extended) time added on!  Unfortunately I couldn't find a league referee that was free and therefore had to use West Exe's but we can't blame it all on that as, ultimately, it was a lack of a strong challenge for their two goals before half time that cost us.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm

Sunday 15 November 2015

Sidmouth Warriors 2-2 Central United

Positives: 2 fantastic goals, came away with a point

Goalscorers: Matt & Marcus

Areas to focus on: Attacking the ball, competing the 50/50 challenges, aggression in the tackle, pass and move.

Manager's comments: What a contrast to last week! Our best performance followed by our worst yesterday which was lacking in most areas - we simply didn't turn up.  There is no doubt we have the ability and from what i've seen so far this season we are more than a match for most teams in that department but, for not wanting to sound like a broken record, commitment and attitude, counts massively in football as yesterday demonstrated.  Sidmouth, technically, were not particularly good but they were up for it and simply wanted it more than us.

Anyway, despite playing so poorly we still managed to come away with a point and remain in 3rd spot but to stay there we really need to sort out our consistency, starting next week against West Exe where I will be looking for a big improvement from everyone!

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm

I've been thinking of something  we could do for a Christmas get together and thought you all might like this as looks good fun and ties in a bit of practice at the same time!!  They have a clubhouse so maybe we could pop in there for a drink/snack afterwards?

http://www.ukfootgolf.com/padbrook-park/4588479182

Cost for 18 holes is £6 - Adults £11

We have a free date on the 19th December so thought that would be an ideal day to do it.  Please let me know if you are interested as will need to book.

Sunday 8 November 2015

Central United 3-4 Bideford

Positives: Excellent performance, new formation worked well giving us better shape, showed determination and character that was lacking in our previous game

Areas to focus on: Defending corners where we looked vulnerable

Man of the match: Ollie - showed once again what a top keeper he is pulling off some tremendous saves

Worth a mention: Great team effort!

Final word: Despite the defeat I would say yesterday was probably our best performance of the season and we fully deserved to get something out of the game.  Their number 3, who scored all of their goals, was a quality player and proved to be the difference in the end.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm.

Training on Saturday

Hi all

There's no game on Saturday but as you were all keen to still do something there will be training 10am to 11am at KGV.  In my absence Luke will be running this - his dad has kindly agreed to come along so there is an adult present.

Jon

Sunday 25 October 2015

Central City 6-0 Central United

Positives: Only our first defeat of the season and still 3rd in the table.  Learnt the lesson that good teams will punish you for lack of concentration and silly mistakes.

Areas to focus on: Number of shots on goal (despite our 2 top scorers missing we should have still tested the City keeper much more), soft goals conceded (reminiscent of us a couple of seasons ago), team spirit and belief when up against it

Man of the match: Ted - centre half might sound like an unusual choice in a 6-0 defeat but was not at fault for the goals and had an excellent game, particularly in the one-on-ones proving very hard to get past.

Worth a mention: George - kept going until the final whistle. Joseph - put in a good performance at right back.

Final word: Whilst City were deserved winners the gifted goals did make the result look more convincing than it actually was.  In future we need to show more pride even if the game is effectively over!

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm.

Central United 6-0 Honition

Positives: Through to the 2nd round of the league cup for first time, clean sheet, good second half response to a very lacklustre first.

Goalscorer/s: Matt 3, Marcus, George, Zak WD

Areas to focus on: Attitude going into games against lesser opponents, lack of through balls, closing down the keeper, general sloppiness

Man of the match: Zak Wilton-Davies - looked so comfortable on the ball playing with head up and made things happen turning defence into attack

Worth a mention: Francis - was a constant threat down the left, Luke - showed his versatility with some great attacking play at right wing, George - hardworking as ever and an inch perfect free kick to get on the scoresheet.

Training at Exeter school tomorrow night 7-8pm.

Positives: 100% record still in tact.  Created plenty of chances and another 4 goals scored.  Some great spells of football, particularly in the second half.

Goalscorer/s: Marcus 3, Zak WD 1

Areas to focus on: Still not enough chatter, decision making when to play out of defence and when to clear our lines, organisation when defending and attacking corners.

Man of the match: Marcus - constant threat up front and grabbed a superb hat-trick.

Worth a mention: Asher - didn't put a foot wrong at left back. Zak WD - some great creative play in midfield, Ollie - another strong performance in goal.

Goalscorer/s: Pacey, Marcus 2, George and Zak WD
Areas to focus on: Being more vocal when going for the ball and helping each other with 'time' and 'man on' calls.  Better finishing and it could have been 10!

Man of the match: Pacey - big powerhouse performance causing opposition no end of problems and a stunning long range strike to top it off!

Worth a mention: Ollie - clean sheet says it all!  Marcus - great 2nd half display and nice to see your sharpness back.  Zak B - worked tirelessly to protect defence making some crucial tackles

Central United 1-0 Twyford Spartans

Positives: Winning start against top 4 team and cup finalists last season, clean sheet, rolling subs worked well to keep players energised, showed determination and good team spirit to hold on to victory

Goalscorer/s: Matt - a very cool and composed finish past the keeper from close range.

Areas to focus on: Being more vocal, anticipating crosses by getting numbers into the box, more shots on goal

Man of the match: George - true captains performance working tirelessly for his team nullifying numerous Twyford attacks.

Worth a mention: Zak Milling - made a big impact on the game when came on with some superb deliveries into the box and good ball retention.
