Sunday 20 September 2015

Central United 1-0 Twyford Spartans

Positives: Winning start against top 4 team and cup finalists last season, clean sheet, rolling subs worked well to keep players energised, showed determination and good team spirit to hold on to victory

Goalscorer/s: Matt - a very cool and composed finish past the keeper from close range.

Areas to focus on: Being more vocal, anticipating crosses by getting numbers into the box, more shots on goal

Man of the match: George - true captains performance working tirelessly for his team nullifying numerous Twyford attacks.

Worth a mention: Zak Milling - made a big impact on the game when came on with some superb deliveries into the box and good ball retention.

Good luck to Joe at University and a big thank you on behalf of everyone for all you have done - hopefully see you again around Christmas time!

Remember, training at Exeter school tomorrow 7-8pm.

Saturday

Hi all

We have our first league match of the season on Saturday against Twyford Spartans at KGV,10.30am KO.  Can everyone try and be there by 10am please.

Below are the players selected for this game:

Ollie
Joseph
Sean
Ted
Luke
George
Zac B
Zak M
Zak WD
Francis
Pacey
Matt
Euan
Marcus

As previously explained it is not realistic to take 6 subs to each game so, unfortunately, 3 will have to miss out each week (when everyone is available) but, of course, are still more than welcome to come along to be part of things including pre-match warm up etc.

With the move up to 11 a-side we longer have to setup the samba goals (hooray!!) but still have nets to put up.  Can I ask that parents help with this please as Joe goes off to Uni next week and Luke play's football himself so I will mostly be on my own!

Finally, many of you will have heard the tragic news of 12 year old Oliver Croker who sadly died at the weekend in a freak accident whilst spectating a football match in Bradnich.  As a mark of respect there will be 1 minute's silence before the match on Saturday for both parents and players to observe.

Central United 3-2 Sidmouth

Well done everyone on a great result and even better performance, I've already told you all how proud I was to see you fight back from 2-0 down to win the game against a strong team. It was well deserved, you dominated the game and were by far the better team - a good sign for the season ahead, given Sidmouth were mid-table in the top division last season. Congratulations to Euan and Marcus on their goals - good to see us score from corners!

It was very impressive how quickly you settled into the new formation, and it was one of the strongest all round team performances I've seen from you. For that reason Luke and I have struggled to pick out one standout player - every single one of you put in a great performance. However we are going to give Euan man of the match for having possibly the best game I've seen him play, and scoring our first goal to begin the comeback, as well as constantly being up and down the right wing right until the end of the game. I would usually mention a few other great performances, but if I did that today I'd end up going through the whole team!
