Awards Day

Hi all, just a reminder that the Awards Day is this Saturday at Exeter City FC, 2pm.

Okehampton v Central United

I'm afraid we are going to have to forfeit our game against Okehampton this Wednesday, due to parents/child evening at Isca School.  I did try and re-arrange for another day this week but Okehampton were unable to change.

Colyton Redsocks 3-4 Central United

Wow.......what a fantastic result yesterday chaps - I would say that has to be our best win of the season.  Not just because you beat Colyton who were joint 3rd in the table but because you did it playing some great football.

It was a confident start to the game and we were unlucky not to get a couple of goals early on but instead it was Colyton who were the ones that went ahead, with their first shot on goal.  Unlike previous games when we have gone behind we stayed positive, kept our shape and played our passing game and were soon rewarded with a free kick just outside the penalty area.  George confidently stepped up and thumped home a superb strike leaving their keeper standing.  We created plenty more great opportunities and Pacey managed to, instinctively, stick one of them away before half time taking us into the break 2-1 up.

We were playing against the wind and rain in the second half but that didn't seem to affect us too much, as we were still by far the better team and looked very comfortable.  Euan put us 3-1 up scoring from close range from a impressive assist from Pacey having been on a mesmeric run past a number of defenders.  Zak Milling's got our 4th with a with a very cool and clinical finish.

It was a tense last couple of minutes when Colyton got 2 goals back.  This was my fault boys so apologies; I shouldn't have changed things around near the end, which disrupted the shape of the team, but thankfully you all dug in and held on to claim a much deserved victory.

Captains armband goes to George for his overall excellent play and a cracking goal (I said you would get one!) - well done!

Worth a mention

Zac Burnard has really settled in nicely to his defensive midfield role and produced yet another solid performance.  Pacey was also excellent in midfield again.

See you all tomorrow for our last training session of the season.

Central United 1-0 CS Leopards

Another win, another clean sheet and some excellent football played.  It was another game we really had to win to get us out of the relegation battle, so well done boys.

It was looking like it was going to be one of those days with numerous chances going begging and Pacey being very unlucky not to score with his superb volley that rattled the cross bar.   Eventually the deadlock was broken by Zac Burnard who showed great reactions to pounce on his rebounded shot and see it over the line.

We had a quiet spell at the beginning of the second half but soon got our passing game flowing again creating more great chances but unable to capitalise.  My only bit of slight criticism is that we are still taking 1 or 2 touches too many before getting our shots in so we'll keep working on this.

Overall a great performance that should have seen us win by a bigger margin.  I quote their Manager after the game "your lads gave us a 1-0 hammering".

Captains armband goes to Euan who's vision and link up play was brilliant down the left hand side and he has clearly worked really hard on the physical part of his game getting stuck into the tackles - good stuff Euan!

Worth a mention

Another flawless performance by Asher - i'm not sure what you've been eating lately but keep eating it! ;-)   Pacey put in another dogged display in midfield and Zak Milling's movement up front was excellent creating numerous chances for his team.

A tough match away at Colyton on Saturday, KO 10.30am so 10am meet please.

Manager's comments

As Joseph said in his report you all responded brilliantly to last week's disappointing result and were well worthy of today's convincing win that could, actually, have been by a much bigger margin.

Captains armband this week goes to Asher who showed much improvement in his tackling and played some great football out from the back - well done Asher.  Other performances that stood out for me were Francis who mesmerised defenders all game with his amazing dribbling skills; an absolute pleasure to watch.  Matt Williams once again gave every ounce of energy for his team and was at the heart of numerous attacks and Pacey added much needed steal in midfield against a very physical Kentisbeare side.

Well done all - see you Monday!

Central United 4-1 Kentisbeare Colts.....Great performance!!!

Match Report by Joseph Gray

Our manager asked for a good response today and he got it; a good all round performance boys! After a sloppy game last week against Brixington we desparetly needed a win to try and keep our division 2 status alive. We struggled to get a firm grip on the game at the start; looking a bit edgy to get a tackle in, but that was soon wiped as some great break away football resulted in an excellent goal by Francis.

From there we were the better side creating opportunities, some via the shear speed of Matt Williams surging runs down the wing. Despite the dirty tackles from some of the Kentisbeare players, we continued to pile on the pressure resulting in a great goal from Matt Williams to make sure went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Playing up hill and against the wind in the second half it was going to be hard work to extend our lead but that was by sure what we done - an awesome strike from Zak Milling which gave us a real boost, not long into the second half.  Shortly after, Kentisbeare came fighting back and got a goal themselves to make it 3-1.

There on Kentisbeare put themselves into good positions, continuing to test our defence. With 10 minutes left the crowd were getting a bit edgy that we might concede another goal but with one last break near the end of the match Andrew Lapworth converted a great close range shot; the final result ended up as 4-1 to united.

Every single player showed what they are capable of, showing how much we have improved throughout the season. Now we are on 23 points, more importantly 4 above the relegation zone. Our next game is on Wednesday 23rd April against CS leopards at home which will be another vital game as they are only 1 point below us in the fight to avoid the drop. After we have got Colyton and Okehampton away.....fingers crossed. Then to round of a season of highs and lows we have lympstone away on the final day of the season ( 3rd May). COME ON UNITED!!!!!!!

Central United v Kentisbeare Colts

Saturday's game is at home to Kentisbeare Colts - KO 10.30am so please be there for 10am.  To help focus your minds, 3 teams will get relegated at the end of the season so things are getting a bit close for comfort with us being 1 of 5 teams within 3 points of each other, so i'm looking for extra special effort from all of you in this game chaps.

See you then!

Sunday 6 April 2014

Brixington 4-1 Central United

I don't think the early KOs agree with us; it was a lacklustre performance today - a far cry from Wednesday's efforts.

We did start brightly and played some nice football creating a few great chances but failed to capitalise on them.  It only looked like a matter of time before we would take the lead but then Brixington scored with their first attempt on goal and after that our heads dropped and we looked a  different team, one that was devoid of confidence.  I'm not sure why going a goal down seems to affect us so much but we do need to learn to shrug it off, continue to play our game and keep our concentration.

Only 1-0 down with the second half still to play I thought we could quite easily turn things round but our lack of desire to win the ball and track players saw us concede 3 further goals, which put the game well out of reach by the time Matthew showed great anticipation in thumping home a loose ball to end the game on a more positive note.

It's a real shame as I genuinely believe we are a better team than Brixington and had we played like we have done for last couple of games we would have won the game quite comfortably.  Never mind, it was an off day and wasn't to be so we'll pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and look to put things right in our next game.  I'll make sure I don't forget the oranges again too!!!

Captains armband goes to Zak Milling who got himself in some great positions behind their defence but, unfortunately, didn't get the service he deserved.  He was also happy to do another stint in goal for his team.

Remember training is at KGV tomorrow (7pm) and there is no money to pay.  See you there when we are going to look at our thow-ins to feet, defending/attacking corners and of course SHOOTING! ;-)

Central Utd 0 - 0 Central City

What a fantastic team performance tonight - very impressed indeed.  You all worked your socks off  and played some nice football too.

It was a very close fought match with both teams having their spells of possession and chances but both defences stood firm and I think the draw was a fair result.  This is the first time we have gone two consecutive games without conceding a goal, which is a great achievement so well done.

It's hard to pick out one player for the captains armband but Joe and I have chosen Sean who was outstanding and played his best game of the season - congratulations Sean!

We have Brixington away on Saturday.  Their Manager has asked if we can KO at 10am as they have another game to play, so can you all be there for 9.40am please - hope this is ok.  Please let me know if your son can't make it.
