St Martins 2-1 Central United

Well.....it was one of those games where things just didn't quite click for us and we never really found our rhythm but it was still a tight affair and one that could have quite easily had a different outcome if we had a bit of good fortune, particularly with Marcus' effort that went over the bar from close range having done so well to get on the end of one of Oakley's superb corners.   Conversely, the same scenario for St Martin's found the back of the net for their second goal.

For much of the first half we looked nervy with lots of passes going astray but St Martins did pressure well to stifle our play.  We got more into the game as the half progressed and with a minute to go Alfie made a good opening in the 6 yard area but was blatantly brought down and Zak Milling equalised with the resultant penalty with a really cool strike.

Despite not firing on all cylinders I was full of confidence for the second half having the momentum and playing down the slope but an early St Martins goal was a sucker punch, which really took the wind out of our sails.

The last 10 minutes saw plenty of pressure on the St Martin's goal but some astute defending kept us out and saw them through to the final as deserved winners.

Man of the Match goes to Marcus who once again did a great job standing in at centre back and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet!

Mentions for Zac Burnard who put in yet another hard working performance and Joseph who was really solid at left back.

I've been unable to arrange a friendly for Saturday as most teams have fixtures, so I'll be at KGV 10-11am for training for those who want to join me.

Hopefully see you then!

Jon
